Broadband Question

Right so all being well will be moving into my (very expensive/rip off)new apartment in a week or two, might have to wait a while before i get my Broadband moved over not too long id say,now i already know that some other people who live in the block their Broadband can be accessed as they haven't secured it ;) (probably not aware, etc) now if one was to leech someones else's Broadband for a while im assuming there would be no comeback on it if one was found to be leeching?

I'm not going to be downloading like mad anyway mostly just surfing the net as usual, think of it as share and share alike

Go for it, I always have a scan for anyone sending out a signal if I have my laptop. If they don't want you too leech then they will block you. As long as you do at least one good deed a day then you should be fine:lol:

You will be joining and unsecure network making you more open.

I would not do banking or anything online if using an unsecured wireless network.

I hijacked one on holidays though for looking up nights etc

I've used free bandwidth myself without any problems. I'd agree about not doing banking, ebay etc. as it is easy to log traffic on an unsecured network.

A couple of times when I've attempted to connect to the wireless router itself, the model of the router has been displayed along with a challenge for a user code and password. Gone to the supplier's web site, downloaded the manual, lookup the default codes and logged in successfully, with full control over the guy's wireless. Fortunately I'm not malicious and have only done it to show people that they need to be much more careful.

well all being well my Broadband can be transfered over in a day or two meaning don't have to leech, was in the new apartment tonite and had the laptop with me, loads of different connections but none on for any amount of time which seemed strange.

But isn't there a way you can protect your own files on your Laptop/PC while still using another netwerok surely there has to be?

When we changed providers we had a few weeks without internet. We had no problems with "leeching" Although can be frustrating when they log off and you are in the middle of something.

Yeah that's what a personal firewall does, but its a bit like locking your valuables in a drawer then leaving the front door open.

Fu*k this im not moving until im sorted with new Internet, these muppets from BT Ireland said it could take up to 10 days,so i think ill take my business elsewhere and try get it done quicker, as if Broadband isn't as slow and expensive as it is.
