I'm not a big fan of the Brits, and to be honest I didnt even know they were on until I read the paper today, but I scrolled through the awards curious to see who'd won best dance act, but found out it'd been scrapped this year!!

How can they have awards such as best Urban Act or Pop Act and completely ignore such a massive genre as dance!!!????
Whats going on there??

rant over

cos "dance" music doesnt make money.

Completely agree!
I think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye because they're issuing very public statements like, 'Rock is back'. This may be true to an extent but who the f__ are they to say?

Mastercard/BBC/Brits are hardly the heart of the underground are they? 8O

I put it down to the music download sites upsetting the applecart with record companies. By nurturing the bands/gigging culture, they can capitalise on something when cds finally give up the ghost.

There's definately some sort of agenda going on.

yip.

i mean who remembers the "sugababes" being voted as best dance act one year...

cant remember the last time ive heard one of their tracks at Turnmills.

Becuase the only group that ever one Best Dance were Basement Jaxx - like there is no other group/DJ to choose from

maybe dance is a bit too "niche"??

dance gets a fair representation at the mercurys, nme, & q awards, the awards that matter!!! ;)

and bands like tiefschwartz, mylo, lemon jelly, lcd sound system are getting lot's of airplay on xfm & radio 1 (jo whiley, zane lowe)

That's the thing; Ready for the thing? Dance isn't that "niche". On a flight to Germany there was a radio station that all they played was House and Trance. In Spain I heard many stations that all they played was Dance. In Toronto, there are at least two stations that play nothing but dance music (one played House/Trance, the other played a mix of House and Hip-hop). Dancing is universal. The real reason is money. Dead Presidents (or in England's case dead Monarchs?) make the world go 'round.

I reckon the dance music award keeled over and died when The Sugababes won, even they couldn't believe their luck.

Yeah but.....Joss Stone as 'Best Urban Act'???? Shows how much credibility The Brits has.

we were highly confused by that too. unless they all sing ballads in the ghettos these days?

Dizzie Rascal should of won it for that all-time urban legend song "Happy Talk". God I love him, he is like sooooooooooooo cool.
