EDIT: just found out that the labels/producers are getting a percentage of this price increase, so not as bad as first thought. however, the fact that beatport increased prices by 80% without informing their customers is still pretty out of order.
not sure if any of you have noticed the new beatport design - it's really nice and they've obviously put a lot of thought and effort into it.
however, they've also slyly changed the prices for UK users - previously most tracks were $1.49 which equates to about 80p. they're now charging in pounds - but haven't adjusted the amount, so tracks are now at £1.49. this is over an 80% increase!
they are also charging UK customers more than US customers as you can see below. the top image is the data received if you are a UK customer, the bottom image is the data received if you are a US customer. they are charging UK customers roughly 50% more.
the fact they've done this and done this without informing their customers stinks of profiteering and taking advantage of djs.
please email them at support@beatport.com and let them know that what they've done is out of order. i've set up http://www.boycottbeatport.com so have a look and use one of the many alternative online shops to buy your dance music.
thanks for your time!
