So how do you all get from outlying areas into the City then - is it just buses or drive?? I cant imagine London without piles and piles of people streaming out fo Tube Stations...
??
Its that long since I did public transport up here, so if I didnt drive, I cant imagine how I would get to work - I would have to "work from home"

The only public transport near me is still runs on steam and the power of prayer.
In all fairness, of all the causes you get for striking, the Tube drivers constant whinging does seem somewhat pathetic (as opposed to, say, the prison guards, which was fair enough, even from a staunch mid-righter like meseflf 
).
Though I think it's more to do with the idiots above them promising the world and constantly not delivering (which would piss me off in fairness, and let's face it, when you know your staff can be led by twunts like Crowe, then you'd think they'd have the sense not to give them any reason to have a strike?).
In any case, these drivers are on relatively obscene salaries, and I find it baffling why they would expect (or the employment market forces dictate) they get anything other than a inflation matching pay rise?!
Let's drag this one out and have a singalong, for old times sake... (needs sound)

The RMT is worst sort of union. Protection of the right to be downright idle.
The private companies that asset strip, feed their subsidiaries as much public money as possible and then go pop or negotiate a withdrawal from their contracts are simply taking of the government's need to create policy for political ends.
The tube needs automating and those useless tossers outing, but that takes strategic long term investment that will long outrun the term of any government. The length of time it will take for that investment to show its' true benefit is the reason we instead get short-term, tactical, politically driven policy.

I just got in 20mins ago
half an hour to get a bus and then Half an hour in the bus from Liverpool St to St Pauls and then decided to walk to Charing X...some more
..... and here's me thinking "ooh London by bus - how lovely - see all the lovely architecture, a bit of people watching....... how much nicer that being stuck in a gloomy, hot and claustrophobic tube....."
I clearly havent got a clue have I....

A bus journey would be delightful if only we could get on them 
or indeed, Scargill's safeguarding of the mining industry.
RMT do seem to be about the only militant union left. i cant believe that tube workers are treated any worse or paid worse than anyone else (£25k a year to lean on those barriers chatting all day!?) so how come they get at least 3 days off each year on strike. it really is just sheer idleness.
