I always put CDs on my laptop to go on my itunes but I got the Miss Kitten Live at Sonar CD today and it won't let me put it on :? Is there a reason for this, I've never had this happen to me before :?

Do you have problems to bulk it in your laptop or in your ipod?

It plays in the CD player but it won't play on my laptop or go onto my itunes but it's not the laptop cos I'm just putting another CD on now :?

perhaps it has some kinda funky protection system on it that won't allow you to copy the cd. :?
Sounds like that's the issue.

There are programs out there that will let you copy protected disks onto your harddrive. Try digging something up on Google.

There's also a work-around for some copy-protected discs which is to take a marker and make a ring around the edge of the disc (make sure you use non-permanent ink!). Sounds strange but it works with some copy protection systems.

it's a bit surprising that a miss kitten CD won't transfer, because you wouldn't expect that to be copy protected :? but maybe if she's on sony or something as a label that might happen.

It might just be scratches on the CD, sometimes laptop CD players are more sensitive to them and won't read some CDs.

Will the CD play through the laptop, i.e. just play out of the speakers without you copying to itunes?

I think it's SONAR CD.

Anyway, Massive Attack were obliged to have this kind of protection and in their website there was a letter from them explaining why and explaining why they didn't want it.

Can you record via 'line-in' on iPod from a CD player?

Quality of recording wouldn't be as good, but it's another option.

When I first put it in all these fancy pictures came up that I'd never seen before so maybe that's something to do with it :?

It won't play at all on the laptop, maybe I should get Tom to take it back, are you allowed to take CDs back if they won't go on your laptop :?

It's so complicating, I think I might just get a Sony Walkman and pre-recorded cassette tapes

Err thanks for the suggetions but I don't really understand the questions

I'm not that familier with iTunes, but we have the equivalent for my iRiver.

Most of our users just drag and drop onto the player (just like an external hard drive) rather than using the software, it's much quicker/easier and gets around any conflicts. Not sure if this is possible with iPod but worth a mention.

The line-in basically means playing from a cd player plugged into the iPod and record on the fly. Again not sure if this is a feature or not?

Chewie, Mark Sun?

When discussing anything technological with me it's best to imagine you're talking to a 3 year old

OK, i'll try my best

Firstly does the player show as a drive letter in 'My Computer' - which should be on your desktop or look on your Start button?

OK, if it does double click on it and see if you can find any tunes in folders (just like using Windows Explorer)

If it does, i would have thought you could just drag/drop or copy/paste into the correct folder.

That won't work on the iPod, files transfered in that manner won't play.

Babs, if you have iTunes open, does it list the CD on the left hand side of the scree (i.e. under 'Music library' 'iTunes store' etc)?
