Can you copy and paste it? I'm scared what will happen if I join a DSI group.
Digitals Interview: Mark Sun
the-squirrel
Hi Mark, how’s tricks with you?
Great thanks, looking forward to the usual madness at Turnmills this Friday
You are playing for Jack Digitals records who are putting out your record at The Gallery, Turnmills this Friday 21st July, what for those who have never had the pleasure can we expect from you?
Late night tech-house grooves with energy and attitude.
How did you hook up with the Label?
Grahame from the label and I talk on AIM a lot and so I sent him ‘Dawnlight’ that way. He really liked it and wanted to put it out!
Which track is Jack Digitals releasing/released?‘Dawnlight’ – Mark Sun
Fergie’s Radio 1 ‘one for onemusic’ unsigned track of the week from a few weeks ago, a stripped back tech-house affair with an infectious groove and a massive crescendo that comes out of nowhere!
And where do you stand on the whole technology debate within DJing from vinyl to CDs to laptops and ableton?
I still love using records but increasingly it’s just not practical for me. I’d say I use vinyl 20% of the time and CDs the rest. I’ve mixed using Ableton a lot at home but haven’t played out with it.. yet! I just bought a M-audio trigger finger and am experimenting with creating rhythms live and dropping tracks in alongside them.
What’s the funniest or most untrue rumour you have ever heard about yourself?
I’m sure people have better things to talk about than me!
What plans have you got for later on in the year and here’s a chance to plug anything coming up?Got quite a busy end-of year coming up, but I can’t talk about a lot of it yet! Just signed to Sedition DJs agency which I’m very excited about, and as well as my track on Jack Digitals I also have a couple of EPs coming out on Fakt Recordings. I’m also flying to Javea in Spain with Stu Hirst to do a gig there in a month’s time and I’ll be back down to play the Gallery too.
And finally some random questions in the time honoured Gallery interview fashion, being summer time and the season of festivals what’s your top three festival tips?Find 1 festival buddy and stick with them – trying to get a big group to agree on which DJs or acts to watch means you’ll just end up herding people and not enjoying yourself!
The girls walking around with free cider can be easily fooled using a variety of hats / sunglasses
Cider and fairground rides don’t mix very well.
Your top three items to always take on holiday with you?
My girlfriend, my iPod and my passport.
And if you could choose three people dead or alive to go on holiday who would they be and why?Definitely alive, dead people aren’t much fun on holiday (just watch ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’).
