I have been wanting to check this night out for a while, more for Lazarus (though I do musically like Black Coffee too) but the clips on socials of Hï on a Saturday - packed, phones everywhere has always put me off.
But when they announced that this season The Club Room was phone free for Damian Lazarus I was keen.
I took one look at the amount of people in the Theatre and stayed (where I had planned) in the Club Room.
So, does the “no phones” policy work? From what I could see there were a few people talking pics of each other, which is kind of fine. But I never once saw anyone actually have their phone out and filming the DJ for long periods. It just wasn’t that kind of crowd. I still have some issue with people that say the crowd is flat in Hï. It most definitely wasn’t on Saturday IMO. Seeing people free from holding a phone was liberating for all us and them I think too.
Got there about 01:30 when Made By Pete was starting out. Overall brilliant set, played as a perfect warm up, and really got the place going.
The room was pretty busy by 03:30 when Lazarus came on. Never that you couldn’t move, but perfectly busy (as the favourite Ibiza saying goes).
Lazarus is one of those DJs that just gives me energy. He’s just up there moving all the time and enjoying every second he’s playing for 2.5 hours +
I really thought was an amazing set. A few examples of the tracks that he played below.
