Big supermarkets

Will be self catering this year and want to buy some proper fresh food from somewhere the locals would shop, ie. not overpriced / over-processed food from the small Spar's etc in San Antonio. Can anyone recommend one and are there any on bus routes?

you could use the indoor market in the centre of san antono for meat, fish, veg, and the brilliant roast chicken etc takeaway el pollastre. the open market at the top of ses variades is also very good for vegetables, herbs, fresh eggs etc. otherwise just pop into any butchers where you see lots of seats for people waiting to be served - there's usually a good reason why they're all there.

Is that the orange coloured shop you are referring to? If so, I spent a lot of time back and forth to that one. Also, the open air market at ses variades that you mentioned is excellent, feels like you're supporting the locals buying from there, it's at the top of the street heading down towards Mambos if anyone's interested, can't miss it, they always display giant melons on the roadside.

Hi, sorry to hijack the thread but can anyone tell me where to go in or near cala llonga for a decent shop? Shopping for 3 adults and 3 kids as staying in an apartment.

There are a few small spar type shops in CL,if you have a car though a much better bet is Santa Eulalia with some bigger supermarkets. The best of these is probably the large Eroski... just out of town on the Es cana road.

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems the indoor and open air markets in San An will be good for us. We haven't decided on car hire yet so does anyone know if buses run to / near the Lidl and / or Eroski mentioned above?

Cheers, we were getting a car but now the mother in law is coming() there is too many for one so now she is on about getting two. Despite the fact it will cost twice the effing price to so may just get one for a few days now mid week. I don't mind popping down on a bus and getting a cab back.

Eroski - San An roundabout or back of west end near Mambo
Lidl - San An
Sa Compra (or similar) by Jovial apartments/Ibiza Rocks in San An - not big but cheap and lovely meat/cheese counter
Fresh fruit and veg stalls on the road paralel to sunset strip (near wasteland where 123 festival was)

the new mercadonna in playa d'en bossa is very nice, great fresh fish, loads of car parking, and the own brand drinks and food are not too bad

:)

Can recommend the new Lidl in San An. Was there yesterday and there were plenty of good value items. Managed to get some good quality Rioja for less than 3€ a bottle 8)
