I was wondering what peoples views are on the best bar in San an for food atmosphere and view of the sunset.usually I just turn up with either a few beers in a bag and watch the sunset then leave.also what time do you need to arrive to get decent table and do you need to book

oooh i really love kasbah loads of fresh fish dishes plus burgers etc chilled atmosphere beautiful. If you are looking for something more lively maybe try further up the strip, lovely smoothies as well for hungover mornings

Other great spots:
Kumharas in San An Bay
Cas Milo restaurant in Cala Tarida
Cap des Falco near Las Salinas
(the latter two are better in late season when the sun is a bit further south)

....do you need to book

Yes unless you get there around 5pm, bag a table and hold onto it until sunset but this isn't perhaps the cheapest option as it's approx. 3 hours until sunset and you will need to keep buying drinks regularly or you will be moved along politely by the wait staff.

That's the one. you probably won't get the chance to give Erick Morillo a big hug there, but so what!

Much cheaper drinks than Mambo or any of the others around the strip.

The Golden Buddha is my favorite place to spend an afternoon in San An. At 35 I appreciate the comfy seats.

nostrum & McR, I feel a bit bad saying this, but jokeybhoy was asking about places in san an.
He might get confused...

I find Kumharas more relaxing and less 'posey' than some of the other bars on the strip, then again Im an aging hippy

Hostal La Torre just outside San An at Cap Negret. Simple Ibiza, no bling, PR or fuss, just easy, relaxed and full of character. For me... the best bar/restaurant in Ibiza for sunset8)

this i my favourite too..

Kumharas for me. Has a better vibe about the place plus my Mrs likes a good wander around the stalls and stuff. Haven't eathen there for a while but when I did it was pretty good.

Never been to Hostal La Torre (Cap Negret) so may put that on my hit list this season along with Cap des Falco

Agreed, but then I'm in the aging hippy contingent too! Much more laid back and chilled. I always make sure I get to CDM and Mambo's at least once during a visit to Ibiza, but Kumharas is my regular haunt as it's always the most laid back and chilled.
