Best source for listening to specific DJs

How do you all learn which DJs you prefer before seeing them live?

Humble apologies if this is obvious to everyone else... I'm not really a clubber, but as I'm going to PDB in a month, I want to go to Space at least once, and I want to have an idea which DJs I prefer before I choose. I've looked at the Party Calendar on Ibiza Spotlight, now I want to listen to all the DJs listed to see which night (or nights) I would prefer - is it simply a case of googling them, or is there a more reliable and simple method of doing this?

Many thanks :)

you can try searching for recorded dj sets on soundcloud.com but it can be abit of a minefield finding what you want as lots of people tag things with dj names etc.
Or ask questions here theres a fair bit of dance music knowledge on this forum so people will be happy to help.
Perhaps give us a few clues as to what your into and we can help

Cheers, I was expecting a bit of abuse so nice to know the clubbing forum is as helpful as the main Ibiza one. :)

As a non-clubber it's quite hard for me to explain what I like, but I'll try...

I DON'T just want bang bang bang, I like the commercial balearic sound, I love the old Ibiza chill out albums, ambient stuff.

I did hear a few songs recently that I wrote down because I liked them, not sure it'll help much because they're all completely different lol:

For 'fast' songs, stuff like Dennis Ferrer - Red Room:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfqevpdA19c (what genre is that called?)

Anything by Underworld (one night I sat on the rocks in San An and listended on my I-Pod to Beautiful Burnout, awesome...)

For slower stuff:
Dalminjo - Departure Lounge
Anything that's a clud-friendly version of stuff like the old chart classics, eg. Lady by Modjo, Absolutely Flawless etc, but obviously not so commercial in a club

Does that make any sense at all? Probably not lol

By the way, I'm going in 3 weeks, and likely to be 'available' for Space on Mon 18th to Thurs 21st inclusive (in case anyone knows any DJs playing then who might be particularly appropriate.

Also by the way, I have been to Space a few times before, but I was sort of wandering round aimlessly, I enjoyed most of what I heard, but it would be better if I researched and planned it better...

search mixesdb.com and just listen to some sets, they have a lot of streams from soundcloud and other sites, but try to listen to recent and live sets.

If you post the djs from your nights, i can recommend who you should start with.

well from those parties / dj's I would say its a fairly wide taste in the house / techno side of things. Definitely more than one style in there.
Roger Sanchez does very long sets and plays House music in different forms from tech house which is abit more stripped down like techno to Tribal which has a big emphasis on percussion to more uplifting stuff which is more melodic.

The Carl Cox lineup is definitely Techno focussed. Cox plays pretty fast , big main room tunes with lots of hands in the air moments. Only a few dj's in the world can really get away with playing sets like he does so is definitely worth seeing. Dubfire has a definite style of producing which is fairly dark sounding but constantly building with signiture crescendo's. Magda I really like , she plays quite minimal techno sort of stuff but always very groovey and funk driven so a mix of influences.
Havnt heard a set by Darren Emmerson but Tim Green plays techno with some electro bits thrown in from what i know.

The thursday lineup looks like alot of the kind of House music thats popular at the moment. Expect vocals and house sounds but with some darker techno elements as well

And to be honest this is just an at a glance generalisation , no dj likes to be pinned down to one style and you never know exactly what someones gona play , and why would you but you can get the general idea. I'll have a look for some mixes that show different styles and see what you think

these soundcloud links have a download button just above the waveform

This is recorded live from Pacha on a Sunday night and the same record label do the party every week so similar sounds , headed up by man of the moment Luciano

this is a set by Dave Clarke and is an example of the harder end of the techno sound. Carl Cox might be similar but alot less dark and abit housier sounding

Richie Hawtin is one of the biggest techno dj's at the mo and his sort of sound can be found at Cocoon at Amnesia on a monday night along with Sven Vath and co. Again some housier stuff often gets played alongside techno.Paco Osuna plays at Cocoon too

On a different tip , Lee Foss and the Hot Natured gang are really popular at the mo , playing more disco and pop influenced stuff which is really groovy. Stuff like this gets played in DC10 on a monday afternoon by Lee , Jamie Jones , Art Department and Seth Troxler. Also Tania Vulcano plays there every monday , the music changes abit throughout the afternoon / night

heres a mix by Nick Curly who you mentioned
