Tunes of the year

1. Rozi Plain - jogalong - not for the clubs but just a really gorgeous record

2. E-versions - magazine - one of the best remakes i've heard in years. Madonna as you've never heard her before.

3. Todd Terje - delorean dynamite. Unashamedly retro. His album wasn't bad either. I am a fanboy but the man IS a genius.

4. Talamanca Soundsystem - balanzat + tuff city kids remix off the excellent International Feel label - reminded me of old italian house.

5. Sven Vath l'esperanza remix. Loved the original BITD. Real emotional sunrise music. Ame updated it. Had gone off Ame recently in truth but this was a return to form

More generally, props to the guys really pushing music forward eg donato dozzy, red axes, jordan gcz, richard norris, tin man, roman flugel, lord of the isles, tornado wallace, seven davis jnr, timothy j fairplay...

I think a lot of good music came out this year. If I had to pick one, my personal fave would easily be...

david august - epikur. not getting tired of this. and so many memories attached to it.

2. koze's remix of moderat's bad kingdom. dancefloor destroyer of the summer.

3. maceo plex' remix of whomadewho's heads above. love it.

4. recondite - levo. and garbo. and DRGN2. producer of the year for me.

5. nils frahm - says. not for the dancefloor and OK it came out 2013, but still...

agree the original is a fantastic track. when I first saw this got a rework I was like 'noooo! that tune is not to be touched', but I have to say âme did a great job on it.
 
Plex has nailed it for me a DJ, producer and remixer. He has hit us with a sound which is uniquely common just at the right moment when deep house pimped itself to the masses.

If we are talking about proper deep house, then Sneak just keeps on going and going and going. Although i have not seen him this year. Clara Da Costa (who i met this year) is an ambassador for this sound and an absolute legend on the island, nothing poncy just proper house.

My fave DJ, Sasha still delivers and his LNOE label cant go wrong release wise.

I still follow Defected but its gone off the boil a bit for me? They are an access entry point to reasonable quality music and Dunmore is a good leader and nice guy.

This year was probably my favourite for music for a while with so many good ones to choose from.

My Fave track has to be Maceo Plex - Conjure Balearia
 
Koze remix of bad kingdom is also on my list. I heard so many DJs play it this year but it was tremendous every time. Superb track.

Also...Recondite- Caldera, Buteo & Duolo....Nobody deserved the #1 live act spot on RA more than this man. Seen him a few weeks ago, and I knew he was going to be good.....but, WOW. All I can say. Excited to see him again at Gashouder at the end of this month. Bleak, atmospheric wonderfulness.
