I'd add Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera - both have amazing pipes, but their diva issues do get in the way.

Back in 'the day' you had Lena Horne, Diana Ross (or was Mary Wilson the real talent?), Karen Carpenter

And let's not forget the ladies of house: Linda Lee Hopkins, Martha Wash, Barbara Tucker...

And Badu is a buddhist word of some sort.
