Hey everyone,
I got back from Ibiza this Tuesday and am still suffering the Ibiza blues, so I figured to take me back there, it is time for my review. Several ppl have been asking me about it so here we go. It is a bit long, so I'm warning you now. Enjoy!!!
Ibiza 2004 - Unforgettable
My Ibiza journey this time (second time ever) can be summed up by one word... PLASTIK. This bar just on the outskirts of the West End made my holiday 1,000,000 better than it would have been. The people I met there, the atmosphere, the ppl I met thru others there, the cheap drinks, the great music, everything, the bar had it all. I will elaborate more in my review.
Saturday, July 31:
My plane from Manchester was supposed to arrive at 825PM Ibiza time, but we didn't even end up leaving Manc until 830PM Britain time. That was a bit of a disappointment, but what really worried me was the fact that I had rented an apartment and was supposed to meet the owner of a supermarket to pick up the keys, but I knew by the time I landed, the store would be closed and I would be well f***ed. No matter how much hoping and praying I did on the plane, my first instincts were right and by the time I arrived at 130AM at the supermarket right beside Hotel Milord, it was closed. I went into Hotel Milord to ask the reception for any help out at all, but I met the rudest asshole on the island, and maybe in the world. The only bastard I met the entire trip and it was on the first day. He promptly would not direct me to anything, not help me call anyone and threw me and my brother out, luggage and all. I hope lightning strikes this man sometime because he deserves that at least.
So my brother and I are sat outside the supermarket trying to figure out what the hell we're going to do for the night. He decides to go and try to get a taxi to any hotel that we can stay for the night. As I am sat with my luggage, I see this young couple fighting while sat on the curb. I'm watching them and I see this old man emerge from around the back of the supermarket yelling for them to get lost as they are disturbing him. I decide to take a chance and ask this man if he has any keys for an apartment. SUCCESS!! This lovely old man had the keys and we were now well on our way to find our apartment. Long story short, we walked around the block and took a taxi around only to find out the apartment was RIGHT WHERE I WAS STANDING!! GAH!!!
No matter, I was all too happy to get into the apartment. My brother and I both can't sleep due to the excitement and jetlag so we ended up going to Vince's Burger Bar to get some food and drinks. Really good for, especially for 330AM and good alcohol. Did not make it home until 10AM pissed off our heads and full. Ibiza day 1 is in the books.
Sunday, August 1:
A problem coming from Canada is most of our mobiles do not work in the UK or Ibiza. Because of this, we had no alarm clock for our entire vacation and just woke up when we woke up. This day, we woke up at 630PM. We decide to head down to Coastline Cafe for dinner and to see our old friend that we met 2 years ago, Jon Constantine or JC, the resident of Coastline. Great friend, great DJ this man is and I recommend everyone to go check him out and his equally great DJ partner, Robin Chappell at CC. Fantastic first proper meal in Ibiza. After that, it was off to Plastik on a tip from a friend to meet a few of his friends who would take care of us on our trip.
My first impression of Plastik, sadly, was that it is in the West End, how good can it be?? I walked into the club and was slapped around 180 degrees on how wrong I was. Amazing place, great music and wikkid vibe. Also, STUNNING WOMEN partying or working there. Another great thing is you don't get the usual West End crowd in there. Not one beer boy or lager lout at all. Defo go check this place out, everyone. We meet the ppl we were supposed to and are sorted for Judgement Sundays. We stick around the bar for awhile meeting many ppl, including the head PR for Armada and Cream, great guy.
We end up going to Judgement around 230AM or so. The place is rammed, the music is pounding and I'm in heaven with Corsten on the decks. Great set as always by him, place is going nuts. I see Judge Jules and start chatting with him and he remembers me from Edmonton and calls me and my brother into the DJ box with him. Day 2 and I'm in the box with Corsten and Judge Jules just hanging out, getting the crowd going and drinking my face off. After Jules has a massive set, we are proper drunk and decide to call it a night around 5AM.
Monday, August 2:
Again, woke up at 630-700PM. Choose Kasbah as our dinner venue for this evening as it was one of my favorites last time. We are served by one of the most beautiful and nicest waitresses I've ever met. The food is again spectacular and the sunset is, well, it's an Ibiza sunset... WIKKID!!! As we're waiting for our bill, Jules walks into the place and spots us and says hello. We chat with him for awhile, thank him for last night and buy him a drink. We talk to the waitress about coming out with us tonight and she loves the idea.
Off to Plastik after dinner for a few drinks and around 130AM, back to Kasbah to pick up the waitress and then back to Plastik. Long story short, we shut down Plastik that night at 4AM. However, not before getting VIP passes for the Boat Pre-Party for Garlands... score! After dropping off our beautiful friend, it's home time again as we are exhausted.
Tuesday, August 3:
Theme again, woke up around 6PM. Had to change quick and make a mad dash to the Garlands boat as it leaves at 7. Make it in time and meet some very nice ppl, Jay Funk (Space resident) and Martin (MoS PR man). Onto the boat we go and it's my first experience with anything like this. It is amazing!!! The system is pounding, the boat is packed with smiling faces and beautiful women. Line-up on the boat: Dave & Huey, 2 ppl I sadly didn't get the name of, my great friend Dermot and Rob Tissera. All rocked the boat non-stop.
By the time the boat swung back in at 10PM, I was completely exhausted. Boat was a bit too long for me, legs are toast and I'm starving. We quickly decide to go to Coastline for a quick bite and to see JC. After that, we head off with him to Plastik for a quick drink and then to Garlands at Eden. Stuck around there until about 430 but were just too too beat and it's hometime.
Wednesday, August 4:
SUBLIMINAL TIME!!! Woke up at 6 and off to Plastik to meet up with friends and then to dinner. Went to this amazing place in San An called Jamel's Bistro. If you can find it, you are in for a treat. T-bones are GIGANTIC there and I was full. It was at this time where my friend turned me onto red wine and now I love the stuff that I used to never touch.
After dinner, it was off to Mambo to see Morillo and to try to get sorted for the evening as we are friends with his manager. Morillo arrives roughly around 1030PM if I remember correctly and he remembers us and chats with us for about 5 min and then it's time for him to play. We see his manager and he takes our name down for the list. Cool thing here, this girl before us on the list asks us if we are taxi-ing down to Pacha and we say yes would u like to split a cab. So it's me, my bro, this girl and her brother splitting a cab to Pacha.
We meet at Plastik for a few drinks and then down to the West End to get a taxi. We meet the greatest driver with trance BLARING. He cranks it to the top and takes us to Pacha, not caring about his CB radio haha. This was my first time at Pacha and I was well surprised. Beautiful club. However, the guestlist is too full and is chopped in half. So 2 of us are on and 2 off without tix. We split the costs and basically we each pay 30 euros for the night, not too bad for Erick Morillo & Steve Lawler B2B with P. Diddy singing. Pacha is rammed because of Diddy being there, much too busy for it to be safe. We lose our friend as she goes to the toilets and we don't see her again for 2 hours. We try to walk around the club to find her and are greeted by the rudest of ppl who are pushing you every which way, up and down the stairs and not caring if you trip and start getting trampled on. We make it outside at around 4AM and are gutted on how the night is gone, too packed to dance, too packed to try to find anyone and have lost a member of our party. In a last ditch effort, I go back in to look for her and I bump into a certain supermodel (no name here) who I have to believe is with P. Diddy's entourage. I say a quick hi as she is too f***ed to do anything else. I turn around after and find our missing member of our party! Success!!! We leave as fast as we can, grab a taxi and back to San Antonio. Shades of leaving Cream early due to the dangers of DEATH in the club. Disappointment is the word here.
Thursday, August 5:
PVD and Tiesto at Cream... that's what I had to look forward to. Tiesto is playing a pre-party at Coastline Cafe so we head there about 8PM to get some food and to see the man. However, the set-up is a bit weird as he will only sign his CD so my posters are useless. Coastline is absolutely PACKED for him and it was too busy for me to even stay to listen to him play, but I heard he was amazing. Our try to get sorted for this night is a bust as EVERYBODY is trying to get on due to it being the start of Radio 1 weekend. My group and I deliberate for hours and finally decide, it is not worth 45 euros and a taxi to Cream to experience what we did last night... I'm sad but I know it's the right decision. We stop by Kasbah to say hi to our waitress and Julesy's there. He asks us if we have tix for the Radio 1 secret party. We say no and bam, he gives me tix for it!! Great guy and I still don't get why so many slag him... one of the nicest ppl, not just DJs, that I've ever met.
With nothing to do, we head to Mambo and see Sasha and he remembers us also from Edmonton and gives us a big hug and chats with us for awhile. While he was in Edmonton, he came back to our house and drank with us until about 6AM so there's a bit of a friendship there.
After that, we decide to head to Plastik to drink with our friends. Good call as the place is rocking and my spirits have picked up from missing PVD. Afterwards, we head down to Eden to Retro where we are sorted out as I'm friends with the Eden resident, who is a spectacular guy! (At this time, I want to say that I am not trying to name-drop or make myself sound big with all the guestlists, etc.) Retro is pretty decent, but I mainly wanted to see my friend, Alex Ellenger, tear the funky room apart, which he does easily. Great set! After we shut down Eden, it's to the Garden of Eden, which I think is one of the best business plans EVER! Drink there until about 9AM and then back to the apartment for some rest.
Friday, August 6:
Wake up at 630PM, yes I know we have not seen any sun yet haha. Ate dinner at Coastline bc our friends was playing the pre-party there for Slinky. Dinner was great, but I couldn't really concentrate... I was too excited for the evening... DEFECTED with Junior Jack & Kid Creme!!! I have never been to El Divino either and I was excited to experience it.
First to Plastik for some pre-drinks and hellos and then off to Defected. Tix are only 30 euros for this night and it is well worth it. The club is spectacular and I love the patio with the view of the sea. Wonderful! The club is not too packed at around 1AM, but by 2 when Andy Daniell (great talented DJ, ppl go check this man out) is banging and Kid Creme is about to come on, the place inside and out is jumping. Creme hits the decks and explodes with Flashdance and I'm going bonkers along with the rest of the club. Sadly, we had to meet some ppl at 430 back in San An and we had to leave a great night.
Back in San An and we meet everyone at Garden of Eden and then into Eden for Slinky. Not a fan of Dave Pearce, but Matt Darey was on and went down to see him. He was wikkid and it was a foam party, which I wasn't aware of and was the first of it's kind for me. Matt played a great set, my friend Alex played a great set in the backroom and then back to Garden where we drank until 8AM again.
Saturday, August 7:
Our friends wake us up at 1PM since we have to be at Bar M for the buses to the secret party by 3PM. First time I've been up this early and it's the most sun I've seen so far haha.
The Radio 1 party is held at the zoo and that's exactly what it was. A great crowd, not too packed, and great weather with brilliant music. Best part is the swimming pool there. So refreshing. Saw the BBC Under-18 DJ winner play and he's awesome. Everyone, keep an eye out for Joey in the next month, months and year. He'll make it big. Sister Bliss was awesome too. Left early at around 6PM as our friends' plane was leaving at 1AM. Went for a good dinner at Jamel's (didn't try many new restaurants, but why deviate from a great thing?) and then said bye to our new friends. Didn't have much plans so headed to Plastik for a ton of drinks and decide to drop by Eden quickly to see Alex and P. Diddy is there for Urban Flavas. I was not a fan at all as I can get enough RnB and HipHop here in Edmonton. Have a drink there and quickly back to Plastik. We debated Hed Kandi but the guestlists were closed by the time we tried to get on so we gave it a pass. Early night at around 530AM.
Sunday, August 8:
Went to Kasbah for dinner. Chatted with Jules again and thanked him for the tix... really a fun, but short time up there. Went to Coastline for a drink after to see Jules play and to hang out before going to Judgement to see Corsten, Jules and Yoji Biomehanika. Stopped off at Plastik for SEVERAL drinks... stumbled to Eden after.
Walked in as Corsten is going banging epic in there!!! He spots me and waves me into the DJ booth. Jules comes up with his assistant and the champagne is now flowing. They offer me glasses and glasses of it and I stop and look around to one of the most surreal moments ever. Here I am, a nobody from Edmonton, standing in the DJ Box of Eden in Ibiza for Judgement Sundays, drinking champagne with Corsten and Jules... amazing. Jules plays an amazing set and Yoji gets on. Never heard Yoji but I know he's HARD!! I turn around after a tap on my back and my waitress from kasbah is in the booth! Turns out she loves the hard techno so she's going bonkers in the dj box with me. Yoji plays an outstanding set!! Many glasses of champagne later, I stumble into the back room where jules and rocky are playing! Room is packed and a great vibe is in there. Much more champagne after and I find myself sat outside at Garden of Eden as the night ends in a blur. Drink there until about 10 and decide to call it a night. Best night so far!
Monday, August 9:
Wake up at around 7 again... head feels like hell, but no matter, I'm in Ibiza!!! Go to Coastline for dinner again and then to Plastik. We have to leave Plastik around midnight as our friends from Canada arrive around 2AM so we have to wait for them at the apartment. Take one of them to Plastik as his gf is exhausted and he LOVES IT. Then quickly to Eden so he can see what an Ibiza club is like and I forgot what is going on there, but Alex is playing the main room and it's a foam party too. Pretty decent night and a great first night for our friend.
Tuesday, August 10:
ARMIN SOLO time!!! Go for dinner at Kasbah to see our lil waitress (too cute) and then off to Plastik for more drinks. Plastik is seriously my fav place on the island... the mixture of friends, music and vibe is too great. After that, it's off to Armada at Amnesia at around 2AM. Armin is destroying the place and the club looks great!! Thank god they put airconditioning in there. So much better. My friends love Amnesia and go to explore. I bump into a girl I met 2 years ago when I was first in Ibiza and we start chatting... no details here, but ended up only stayin at Armada for about an hr as we go back to hers. I end up back at Plastik around 430 to see everyone after closing. Then off to Eden to see Alex for Garlands. Place is pretty busy, but I was not in the mood for it so back to the hotel around 630AM.
Wednesday, August 11:
Our friend who left earlier in the trip comes back and is now with 2 other girls who are an absolute RIOT!! 2 of the nicest girls I've ever met! We wake up at 1PM as that's when our friend arrived. Hit Coastline for some tanning and walk around between Coastline and Kanya. Kanya has the Ratpack going on, which are a couple of really really nice guys that I had the pleasure to meet. Go for dinner at David's Pizzeria, but it's MUCH too busy there so we have to settle for Geppetto's... umm yeah, not the same at ALL! That's all I will say about that. We go to Cafe Marimar to see one of our good friend's who works there. Love the bar, great little place to drink and relax and is pretty busy too.
Stop by at Plastik and all of us get completely wasted until 4AM. Then we all go to MoS at Eden as we're all sorted for it. Not too busy, but still great. JC is playing the mainroom and is just rocking it. After Eden shuts down at 6, we all go to Garden of Eden and keep drinking. Perhaps, this was the most fun I had as all my friends that I've met were all there and we drank and drank and drank until about 11AM. We left and the girls came back with us and we jumped into the pool in our complex and tanned and swam until about 1230PM but was exhausted by then. Bed time.
Thursday, August 12:
Wake up not too bad at around 5PM. We arranged a big dinner with 10 of us at Coastline, all the closest friends that we have made and met on this trip. This night also had the perfect, most beautiful sunset EVER!!! Not a cloud in the sky. This is what Ibiza is all about, good food, great music, fantastic friends all with the sunset as the backdrop... great moment. After 6 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of champagne, I am absolutely right wankered.
We all stumble to Plastik and continue drinking there and then it's off to Eden for Retro where 2 of my friends are doing a b2b in the funky room. Best set I heard on the island was here... Dermot C and Alex Ellenger going nuts and the room is absolutely packed and going off!!! 6AM hits and again, back to Garden. This time it gets really messy as Alex P and Brandon Block show up. We end up drinking with them until 11AM again and I can barely walk to find a taxi home. We promise them we'll make it to Alex's bday at Space, which is a hilight for me to see Tall Paul on the Terrace.
Friday, August 13:
1PM rolls around and I can barely talk, nevermind get up. Sadly I miss my chance to see space AGAIN!! I have Ibiza flu when I wake up, lost my voice almost, bad cough and I decide smoking is DONE for me. Wake up completely at around 7PM and go to kasbah for my final dinner on the island. One of the saddest moments for me as we have started saying our goodbyes to everyone that we've met. Great last meal at a fantastic restaurant.
Off to Coastline for a few drinks and goodbyes and then to Plastik for our last time... I was really really gutted the entire night and wasn't in the mood to really party. We leave Plastik around 230 and go to Eden to watch Alex play in the back room. He kills the place as usual and 6AM rolls around and everyone's chanting for 1 more, but sadly it can't be done. We go back to Garden for a few drinks and recalling the last 2 weeks and it almost brings a tear to my eye. 930AM comes and my brother and I both figure we should get home to pack as we leave at 6PM. Say goodbye to everyone I've met and back to the hotel.
Saturday, August 14:
Didn't sleep at all... maybe it was due to the sadness, who knows. Go back into town for some final shopping of gifts... the T-shirts were outrageously priced this year and couldn't really afford to buy anyone anything. Went to Coastline for one final lunch with the girls and said our final goodbyes. Hit the airport and our flight is delayed AGAIN by about 3 hrs. Don't end up leaving till half 9PM and am depressed and pissed off now... but I think back to the entire trip and a smile sweeps across my face again. Good bye Ibiza.
Best meal - Coastline Cafe (Paella)
Best Bar - Plastik
Best Club - El Divino
Best night - Judgement Sundays (drinking with Corsten, Jules and Yoji)
Best song - Deepdish - Flashdance
Best thing - Friends I made out there.
This trip really taught me a lot about myself... it was really the friends, not the clubs that made this holiday for me and I was completely not like that when I arrived. Everyone I met out there, except for the Milord asshole, made my holiday what it was, the best time ever. We all started as acquaintences, but left as great friends.
Well that is it. Again, I apologize for it being SO LONG. I only hope those who read the entire thing enjoyed reading it as much as I did experiencing and writing it. Again, I was not trying to namedrop or make myself out to be somebody important. I was just a kid who went out there to have nothing but fun and ppl saw that in me and tried to make my time out there that much better and they succeeded. Thank you to everyone who helped me on this board before I left and I hope those that are out there right now are having the time of their lives and those who are going out there later will have a blinder, as well.
So, until next time, cheers...
See you in 2 years again Ibiza,
Terry

See you in 2 years again Ibiza,
Terry
