Thinking about going to this beach when we,re away in September, we know we need to rent a car as no public transport goes that way, but do we need a 4x4 to get to it, or will a normal car do it, dont want to damage a rental car,so need to know the best one to rent.
Do they still do bongo drums etc on a Sunday,
thanks

If you plan to go by road, then a twingo will suffice. Over rugged terrain then take the jeep:)

Well worth the trip but my advice is to get there early and i mean before 3pm to get a parking space thats not in San Miguel village. Sunday is very busy up there. A full moon night is better when its mid week.

Enjoy the beach for a few hours before the relaxed mood starts to build as the hippies arrive one by one along with the hoards of tourists and sunset seekers around 5pm. From then on it just gets busier and busier.

Get a beach spot down towards the south end of the beach so that you dont have the crowds walking all over you as they try to view the bongos.

How far from San Miguel village is the beach, can it be walked in about 20 minutes
thanks

No chance. about an hours walk on a VERY dangerous road that has claimed a few lifes.

You could get a bus to Puerto San Miguel and a Taxi to the beach from there about 10mins. But make sure to arrange a return trip with the driver.

The road is really a doddle, Heather - you can quite easily take a normal Group A hire car and it makes life easier to have your own transport. Large car park just behind the beach - if it looks full and people are driving round or back up the hill looking annoyed, persevere - I've found a space there even when it's backed up half way back to the main junction - but it's best to go early as Bez says. Once you get there you won't want to go anywhere for a good few hours !

The night of the big fire and evacuation is the only Summer Sunday I know of the bongos were not played in my recent memory.

Just looked on the Ibizabus site, cant see any buses that go to San Miguel on a Sunday :(

from San An its only Tues and Thursday, and from Ibiza town on the 25 it says no service on Sundays
