What's funny? I look smooth as there, especially considering the state I was in, that's only about 60% of my beauty. BTW, there you ago again Dan, can't finish the debate so attack the person rather than their points. You wish you looked that good.

The BBC are running a poll for one of their shows, The Daily Politics, for punters to pick their favourite peacetime prime minister.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/the_daily_politics/6242715.stm

Why should you vote (clem attlee got my vote):

1) Thatcher is currently winning by a long way and we want to change this. Firstly, I'm not sure how she qualifies as a peacetime prime minister, further compounded by widespread civil unrest.:?
2) It only takes a second to vote and altho it is only a poxy poll deep inside
the BBC website, Thatcher's legacy can still be shaped by democratic action like this.
3) most importantly, the BBC seems committed to employing kelvin mckenzie *spits*, who is probably the lowest form of human being it is possible to conceive of. if you don't know who he is shame on you (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin_Mackenzie). There is probably no one who has not been directly acttacks by his comments down the years and the continued employment of him by the BBC with public money is disgraceful.

Harold Macmillan gets my vote. I worked on his estate as a kid & he was thoroughly nice chap. Good record as being PM as well.

I wanted to vote for Hugh Grant in Love Actually, but couldnt

And by "peacetime" I think it means not during a world war!!

hmmm. i think whoever opened into dialogue with the IRA and sinn fein to get the good friday agreement ball rolling, was it john major?? because for a few years we were safe from terrorism on these shores!!!

It can only be Attlee, his government created the country we live in today (for all Thatcher's efforts to dismantle it). One of my real heroes.

Yeah coz Thatcher was a complete diaster wasn't she. Dinguses. :spank:

errrr. yeah, for every loadsamoney yuppy see 3 or 4 families living in economic hardship.

people will say that foundations were built during her reign but thatcher's britain was a horrible place to be brought up in. considering how close it was (in a time sense) i still see it as the dark ages.

but no phil, you're right she was a resounding success, especially in scotland where she particularly endeared herself.

3 day week, strikes every other minute... bags of uncollected rubbish... winter of discontent...
