The menacing sky indicated that a storm was approaching but thankfully we didn't get (too) wet...
The Zimbabwean-born, British-bred singer Tinashé Fazakerley released an album as Tinashé (Saved - 2010) but had to pick a new name because of the pop star Tinashe. He returned as Rationale with the EPs Fuel To The Fire (2015) and Vessels (2017), with a self-titled debut album expected for october.
The talented singer/songwriter/producer, whose name can be found on the writing credits of the latest albums of Rag 'N' Bone Man (who opened for Bastille three years ago before hitting the big time) and Katy Perry, got the crowd going with his atmospheric pop music. Songs like "Re.Up", "Fast Lane", "Prodigal Son", "Fuel To The Fire" or the new single "Loving Life" sounded extraordinary live.
One to watch in 2017.
Colin Peters (Rock Nights) was part of the line-up this week and that always guarantees a great selection of tunes. Even though a silly bit of rain made an appearance (nothing compared with the heavy rain during Dizzee Rascal's show in 2013), the multinational crowd didn't mind and some of them even stood in the front row for Bastille to appear.
Bastille were back, after visiting us in 2013 and 2014, for one of most highly anticipated shows of the summer.
Dan Smith, Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson and Chris Wood (with the addition since 2015 of multi-instrumentalist Charlie Barnes as a touring musician) brought so much energy to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel stage. They performed a mix of tracks from their two #1 albums Bad Blood (2013) and Wild World (2016), including "Send Them Off!", "Laura Palmer", "Warmth", "Flaws" (where, as the previous times, Dan jumped down into the crowd to sing it), "Bad Blood", "Good Grief", "Things We Lost In The Fire", "The Currents", "Blame", the Corona/Snap! mash-up "Of The Night" (where the singer told the crowd to get down each time before the explosive chorus kicked in), "Fake It" and the anthemic "Pompeii". Dan spent the whole show jumping around, banging his drum and, most importantly, singing amazingly without missing a note.
Nights like this prove why Ibiza Rocks is the number one event for live music on the island.
Next Ibiza Rocks date is a very special one: Primal Scream at Pikes on august 29th... tickets available here:
