All very different, but very good.

Other highlights:

Met and spoke to Woody Allen,
Beach - heard it wasn't up to much, but it fact it was a great place with a great vibe.
Some of the great flamenco buskers,
Really friendly locals, including Police.
Views around the city.
Staggering round lost., almost losing hope, then falling upon a great little square, with bar i n you've been trying to find for hours.

Lowlights:

Got wallet nicked £400  - 12 year old "deaf" kid distracted me while he nicked me wallet from my bag.

Ramblas- what's all that about? can't believe that's the famous bit. It was like any big and busy high street in England.

Loved it!!!

The missus had a couple hundred dollars worth of pesetas nicked from her bag on our first visit (in '98/99) as a pair of gypsy women were chasing us for a handout.

Totally agree about Las Ramblas.

is this problem so intense???i'm starting to feel a bit scary as we're going to Barcelona einai 18 days...

No no no. It's no worse than any other city with a large number of tourists. Just keep your wallet in your front pocket and you'll be fine ;)

Nice town, really.

Barcelona is a great city but unfortunately is probably one of the worst city's in Europe for pickpockets, my mate got done TWICE8O when we were there and ive heard of countless others who were done, why have the local Police not had a massive clampdown on this as it seems to be getting worse.:?

Don't worry about the pickpocketing thing. As long as you're careful you'll be fine. ie. not like me. I really should ahve seen it coming - damn rose wine in the afternoon! Granted it is a common occurence - but if you're reasonably vigilant you should be fine.

It was first time in Barcelona and I was really impressed. There is so much to that city - don't let something that can happen anywhere put you off. 8)

i'm with you on the rambla thing. it reminds me of market street manchester and that awful port thing at the bottom is a dead ringer for the arndale centre.

My first visit to Barcelona I was mugged by knifepoint  he stole ALL my bag which had EVERYTHING I could possibly need in it. (yes I know I shouldn't carry all my documents, etc in one bag)
We were travelling at the time and had to go home :( Saying that though, Barcelona was an amazing place and we met some caring people during our time there 8)

Came back from Barcelona yesterday and have to say it is one hell of an amazing place. La Rambla is ****e and you have to be careful of the thieves. Not entirely sure why loads of people hang out there anyway.

Went to the Summercase Festival which was ace. I'd recommend Barcelona to anyone.

For such a good city it has a very serious problem with thieves around Las Ramblas which is very unfortunate, next time im in Espana (asides from Ibiza) id say ill go to Valencia the best city ive been to there.:)

Agree. The area around the main railway station(Termini) in Roma is even worst.
