going to barcelona with my girl for the first time for a couple of days before ibiza......staying in las ramblas, on july 15 & 16......can anyone recommend any clubs, bars, restaurants and strip clubs? really looking fwd to barcelona, but neither of us speak a word of spanish (i know how to say that "my father is the milk man") can we get by on very broken spanish?

thanks

You can get by without discussing your old man's profession ;) . Astin (Abaixadors 9) is a very good bar where the music is great. It is on one of the streets in front (within 50m/yds.) of the Santa Maria church in the El Born area. Good, friendly crowd too. Hell, it is hard to find a friendlier crowd than the Catalan folks. I used to grab Pintxos at a restaurant ( Barcelonia) in the El Born area. Nice place.

With only two days in Barcelona I think that should be enough. I think you might want to visit a few sites while you are there. I would strongly recommend Casa Batllo, La Pedrera and if you get an early start go to Montserrat. Absolutely gorgeous, not to mention awe inspiring.

Silvia, are you impressed with my recollection  ?

Have fun in Barcelona. Had it not been for the fact that I ended up with a super job offer, I would have been spending my summer in Barcelona. That is how much I loved it :( .

Laguna, proud of you for remembering all the specifics lol. I went directly AFTER my Ibiza trip so I was still a bit crazy hahaha. But enjoyed it immensely nonetheless

I remember spending like 8 hours on Las Ramblas, just buying stuff and wandering up and down the cobblestone streets with my boy at the time.... talk about ROMANTIC. Saw some wonderful streetside skits and dance shows, and some of the most amazingly talented artists I have ever seen.

Went to some pier and little wharf area at the end that had a fun little club and several very nice sea food restaurants but I can't remember the name?

Hola John!

As I said before, don't worry about the language, we are really used to deal with tourists who doesn't speak a word in spanish, lots of people speak spaninglish and body language would do the rest. Just one thing, don't pretend everybody to speak english, that's something that really annoys us.

For clubs I would recomend you La Terraza or Catwalk. Also Space or Fellini are good options. About bars and restaurants I would suggest you to explore El Born (excellent restaurants, bars, shops and vibe) and las Ramblas and streets around. Most of them look like red light streets but as long as you take care of your wallet you'll be ok.

For touristic activities here is a little modernist tour:
- start visiting "palau de la Música Catalana" a stunning concert hall, if you can visit the inside do it cos it's amazing.
- Then walk up Passeig the Gracia, with three gems of Modernism (two Gaudi buildings)
- Take the tube or a bus to La Sagrada Familia and if you feel strong enough climb up the towers
- Take the tube againg and visit Park Güell and enjoy the views and the place cos it's magic.

John, if you make a search on this site you'll see there's lots of Barcelona advice posts.

Hope you enjoy your stay and don't forget your sunnies and your sun protection ;)

thanks for all of the advice.......i def will not assume that everyone speaks english, even in ibiza i make an effort with my spanish, however 100% of the time we mutually agree that the other persons english is always better than my spanish, haha

as for la terraza, i have wanted to go there for years, but i have read that it has been shut down. is this not true? i have also read about discotheque.....

thanks again.....i am so excited, i wish that i was going to be there for more than two days, but us americans do not get nearly enough vacation time.......and i need a few days on the white island every year.

La terrazza is open but for what I know their sound system it's not anymore what it used to be. It's an open air club and there's been problems with neighbours.
DIscotheque used to be OK, but I've never been a big fan

their web-site says that they are temporarily closed......i am pretty upset about this, i have heard so many good things about this place. it says that their party is being moved to club fellini. i land in barcelona on friday july 15, i leave for ibiza early sunday morning, so i will probably only go out to a club on friday night.....so if you had one night to go out, and it was friday, where would you go?

¡bienvenido!

Hola!

Am living in Borne at the mo, yer definitely check it out really nice area in Barca...There´s a bar called Rubi on Calle (or street!!) Banys Vells, and another called La Fianna really chilled atmosphere and good food...there´s another wee bar called Milk which is behind the post office, and its strip joints your after stick to the Rambla! Plenty of dodgy pro´s too if it takes your fancy!

Am sure you´ll have a wicked time, although even though we´ve been here for 5 months we´ve struggled to find the best places...the locals don´t seem to like recommending the best places to english people very much! Don´t worry about the language too much as long as you know Cerveza is beer you should be fine!

Have a good un!

Fellini is down las ramblas, the venue used to be a show-girls club, it's kinky and dirty but you can give for sure a good "fiesta" ;)

Catwalk is in the seafront, it's a very nice venue full of classy beautiful people, I've never been but people from here had really good nights there.

Check their sites:
