Right, I've decided to go to Barcelona for new years. I've never been there before so any info on hotels (4* please) that are really cool and in good locations would be much appreciated.

Also any info on where to go out would really help.

Thx

I've been wanting to visit for ages now so I am really looking fwds to this. Have you been Barbie?

I went last year for NYE and absolutely loved it and going back in January for my 30th :D

Last year we stayed in apartment cos there was a few of us, in Jan we have got a suite at Banys Oriental hotel (sp??) that Sil recommended to us. That sounds like the kind of thing you're after.

We went to a gorgeous restaurant for NYE (errr Sil, what was it called??!) and then went clubbing to Fellini and then went to the Matinee aftershow.

Then we did loads of other stuff like sightseeing, visiting the Nou camp etc, I completely fell in love with the restaurant, def my fave city I've visited, you will love it :D

Hola :D

Long time I don't do a BCN info post

If you can get a room in any of those hotels you are a winner:

Hotel Omm
Hotel Banys Orientals
Hotel Pulitzer
Hotel Casa Fuster (this one is brand new and it's sitted in a modernist building that it's an arquitecture jewel)

About clubbing that night I'm not sure, there's ages I run away from the city for NYE, if you fancy serious clubbing I suggest you Fellini followed by MIto Party (people from all over the country comes to BCN on NY Day just for that after party), and if you fancy sophisticated not that hardcore clubbing then Catwalk may be a great option

best restaurant in barcelona for food - talamanca
best restaurant in barcelona for atmosphere - el cangrejo loco
best restaurant in barcelona for a posh nosh - botufumero

as for somewhere to stay........barbie has got the right idea, metro is good/easy to use in barcelona and anyway.....its a nice walk otherwise!!

enjoy yourself!! :D :D :D

thanks everyone. the hotels you've listed are all really pricey, probably due to their availability. I've done a seach on Expedia and it has come up with the following hotels which are more in my price range.

Can you tell me which of these is closest in aura to those you mentioned?

Princesa Sofía Gran Hotel
Majestic Hotel
Hotel America
Husa Barcelona Mar
Aparthotel Mariano Cubi
Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I
Silken Diagonal Barcelona

this last one looks really cool in the photos!

I would definitly go for Majestic, if there's no room then I would go to HOtel America. Other hotels are too far away from action :D

Silvia - can you help me remember the name of this hotel?

As you're coming out of the Las Ramblas area, straight ahead is the avenue with the Gaudi buildings on it. Their is a street that runs parallel to that avenue, one block to the left. It's kind of a boulevard in that it has a narrow park-like area in the middle. The hotel is about 3 blocks up from the plaza, on the right. Any ideas?

So the hotel is sitted in the boulevard with the narrow park-like area three bolcks on the right from the Gaudí avenue, is that right?

Hotel OMM is nice, ok price too.

We ate at Tragaluz last year. Again very nice (thanks Sil ;) ) but a little overpriced on NYE. Having said that our meal for this NYE back home looks like being a similar cost.

The street is one block to the left of the Gaudi avenue, but runs parallel. I remember at the beginning of it was a nice tapas restaurant .

The hotel is on the right side of that street.

I've done some more research and the name Las Ramblas keeps on coming up. All hotels near here are fully booked. is that a cool place to be or a tourist trap?

Think Oxford Street.

;)

Some friends have recommended to me the Ambassodor Hotel, mainly because it is so close to the centre and all the hustle and bustle. Great for location and not bad inside. (quite cheap too!)

Any feedback from you guys?
