I'm quite sure this has been a thread 356887851 times before but help is needed.

May well take my gorgeous wife to Barcelona at the end of May bank holiday to celebrate the end of her final stage exams and my departure from my current company.

So with that in mind I need to know.

Best area to stay in?
Hotel suggestions?
Top end resturants?

My fave area to stay in is the Gothic Quarter - loads of nice little one-off shops, cafes, bars, yet only a short walk from Las Ramblas and the beach.

I really like Banys Oriental (book a suite) http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com/ or Grand Hotel Central (really nice infinty pool on the roof and the most amazing breakfast) http://www.grandhotelcentral.com/es/index.htm

Fave restaurants are Torre d'alta Mar (amazing views across the city, not good tho if you don't like heights), Agua (book a table outside for lunch), Pla (really nice romantic restaurant).

If an African prostitute jumps on your back - she aint looking for a piggy back home & is actually going for your wallett.

Do a search. I went at xmas so if you can find the threads relating to that.

I'm with Barbie on this one - we stayed a bit outside the general hubbub off Diagnol and near the beaches and I really wish we hadnt, although using the underground was so good - cheap, clean and quick - I would rather have stayed in the Gothic area as its the best for shops (imo) for shoes and funky stuff, if your lady likes shopping that is.... bars are great and some lovely little intimate restaurants.....

I`d recommend staying in the gothic quarter, really nice area. Plenty of little alleys to explore with cool one off shops and cafes. The metro is very good for getting around so this would be a good base to explore from. Take the cable car up to mount monjuic on watch the tower sway in the breeze, scared the crap out of me! If u like that sort of thing

Was there at the start of March for the Celtic game and mostly stayed on La Ramblas, me and the missus were in a tapas bar there and Im positive every member of the waiting staff and the chef were high...I'd recommend it, but I cant remember the name...not much help I suppose!!

I would say, as everyone always does, watch out for pickpockets etc. We had three guys approach us offering us free passes to a club and one of them tried to grab my wallet. Word of advice to any pickpockets reading this, just cause a Glaswegian is short and drunk, don't mean he can't handle himself...one of my knuckles is still sore!!!!:D
