I'm going clubbing in Ibiza for the first time in 2 weeks, and was looking forward to going to Manumission. However, after reading some reports on this site it seems I might be wasting my time/money - what do you think?

I've never been before due to Cocoon being so darn good, but the Music Box room does look tempting so I might head over in the second week I'm there.

i went to manumission for the first time last monday and my impression was this.

The place itself is really good, as i had been to privelege before i knew what to expect by the size of the club, anyway after going for a walk round the place and buyin 2 drinks 20 euro's 8O i soon realised that manumission is living off its name and tryin to bleed you dry of every penny you've got, standing at the bar watching an obviously inexperienced clubber buy a drink and then watch the barman give the poor lad an evil stare and made him put his change into the tips is a total piss take. needless to say he didnt ask me when my change came forward, anyway the night to me is very average, you stand round half the night watching a load of boilers strip naked and prance about, it totally forgets the fact that your there to dance to tunes and not watch a show, i'd advise any first timer just beware to be ripped off and be made to feel honoured that you have been. If id known before hand that it was a totally commercialised rip off id have went to pacha to see roger sanchez (pure tunes)..

end of rant...

if you have never been to manumission before, then go. You have to see/experience it, at least once.

do it. you'll either love it or hate it. i'm one of the few members of this forum who love it.

but as Robo says everyone must try it.

and willy how did you ever think that the largest club night in the world would be anything other than highly commercial?

If its your first time do it. I did it two mondays ago... Will never do it again but not because i didn't like the club or because they did not play good music, i would not do it again just because i think that manumission is only to go once in much years because the good think about manumission is to see the club, biggest in the world, the different areas and the different kind of people. what i did not like anything is because it's like a tourist attraction.

If you go, buy your entrance somwhere else because i made the mistake to buy it at the door and i payed 60€ with no drink ;)

I've just found out that my favourite club ever, Optimo will be playing there on Monday 6 September in the Music Box. :D

Definitely going to check them out and I thoroughly recommend anyone with an ecclectic taste in music to come along as well. You won't be disappointed.

just back myself, for the second time didnt bother with manumission didnt like it at all last year
but i think you should go to priviage at least once, just to see whats its like and make your own mind up!

Thanks for the advice everyone! Still very confused as to whether it's worth a look, so think I'll decide when I get there! :? Clara; what would you consider 'eclectic' music? I'm arriving in San An on Monday 6 (lunchtime), so could make the Optimo night?

I think Manumission/Privilege was a complete waste of time. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you want to check out one of the biggest clubs in the world. I wish we would have picked other parties instead of going to Manumission and Balaeric People.

Optimo is my favorite club ever. They play anything they like but I suppose you'd class it more as an electro night, but they'll play anything from pop to country and techno to reggae. That's what makes it so darn wonderful.

Their website is www.optimo.co.uk and they've not been confirmed 100% yet.

f*ck me, that would be pretty amazing if optimo are hosting the music box, ive only decided today to make a second trip out this year from the 4-8 sept, i was going for sasha & zabiela @ space, but manumission is now a must. i went last year and stayed in the music box all night, mainly cause ewan pearson was playing, but its a fantastic wee room.

From their site, it loos as though Optimo are now confirmed as playing the Music Box on the 6th. 8) My dream has come true! :D

Personally, i am not sorry i went. Went for the 1st time a few weeks ago and it was definitely worth the money and hype. If you've never been i would go it is worth a see. Yes, it was very HOT and crowded, but the show was oh sooooo grand!!!! :D And the music was great!

Agreed on the prices, although i found it not to be much more than the other clubs. How 'bout this?! I went to Pacha and got 2 beers = 40 euros!!!! She wanted a 40 euro minumum but c'mon, plus she didn't even tell me until after the fact!! Ugh...but i don't hate Pacha for it. That was an AWESOME night otherwise.

Manumission's music was ON TOP, it actually was more about the music than i thought. The resident dj's were playing constantly, AND all the big tunes........

MY MY MY
FLASHDANCE (Original & Skylark mix w/ LIVE Sax player!!!! :P )
FLASHBACK
COMFORTABLY NUMB
STRINGS OF LIFE REMIX ( :!: )

All in all, a great night, just see for yourself and judge..... :)
