THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE SPACE…

Featuring massive summer anthems from Spektrum, Fraks, Psycho Radio, Steve Lawler, DJ Chus & David Penn, Armand Van Helden and Shapeshifter’s ‘Lola’s Theme’ and many more…

The compilation also comes with a free DVD featuring huge Ibiza anthems-to-be and interviews with some of the island’s biggest DJs!

Place either disc into your CD player, close your eyes, tap your ruby red dancing slippers together, then simply repeat “there’s no place like Space, there’s no place like Space…”

Accepted, it’s not QUITE the same as actually being there, but nevertheless the varied music contained on this 2004 compilation is sure to stir up vivid images of some of the best times of your life!

Space is an Ibiza institution, emblematic of the island, a ‘must see’, ‘must feel’, ‘must do’ experience that represents all of the best aspects of the Balearic isle’s crazy cosmopolitan club lifestyle. The venue thrives upon the enthusiastic support generated by its multi-cultural clientele, an ideal human ****tail of international types, nationalities, languages, fashions and sexualities that somehow gel into a dynamic and beautiful whole, a diverse congregation blinded together in perfect harmony without conflict! At Space an understanding has developed that it’s attitude that counts, not passports, with music the reason for this – music is the answer.

This amazing atmosphere has in turn created a situation where all of the Worlds top DJ talent want, indeed NEED, to play there. Space crowds receive great sounds with such pleasure and emotion - it’s a perfect synergy between spinner and listener - a magic. For any DJ, however famous, spinning at Space is considered to be a kind of musical medal of honour; one earned not from taking part in the intensity of battle, but from taking part in the intensity and PURE ENJOYMENT of the best party place on Earth (Space has twice been awarded the World’s Best Club accolade at the prestigious Dancestar Awards).

It’s a venue where no single national force dominates (an increasingly rare phenomena over recent years in Ibiza), the convergence of an exotic and erotic mass of rhythmic music lovers, a special breed of positive people who adore to dance all day long, be it on the open air Terrace, or inside the large darkened interior.

Ibiza as a whole quietly percolates throughout May, bubbling gradually into life as the month progresses, bars opening dusty shutters and repairing paintwork… Until finally, at SPACE OPENING PARTY on the closest Sunday to the 1st of June - the whole island just seems to erupt in full-on party mode. Dazzling and colourful, buzzing with forward-looking optimism. Space Opening has long been the ‘traditional’ curtain-raiser for the whole summer clubbing season, an event that draws most of the European music industry together with dance enthusiasts and the ‘Ibiza family’ in a gloriously energised ‘welcome back’ celebration as the island comes dramatically back to life. It’s a couple of days of extreme hedonistic excess populated by the most cheerful and orgiastic gathering of bohemian club trash found anywhere on earth.

The Space team ensures that their tastes are fully satiated, thanks to the attendance of the greatest DJs on earth, playing the best contemporary clubbing soundtrack of the moment. It’s a sublime and seductive rhythmic ride, enjoyable regardless of personal musical tastes. Once again the Terrace heaves to a fresh round of eclectic, summery, funky, House-driven hits from early morning until Midnight and, since the Closing Party of 2002, the vast back car park area is especially converted for the day into a huge outdoor arena, a festival-like setting complete with tents and bars. This development has enabled thousands more people to comfortably join the celebration, with around 15,000 passing through the door on these extra-special Opening/Closing occasions. The car park additionally has a third DJ box, in order to accommodate yet more top DJ talent and sound-styles, whilst the newly enlarged interior space continues to gnash and growl with its harder, determinedly underground Techno-Trance vibe for many hours longer, on until at least dawn and usually far beyond into the morning.

The venue is a wonderfully appointed and dedicated dance structure (I haven’t even mentioned the new chill out area), and yet - like the music which is the club scenes very life force - Space has to be ever-evolving, moving with the times, fashions and desires of its current clientele, because the club is a concept that goes way beyond its physical bricks and mortar, above all Space it is ALWAYS a place about the people who go there – because without them it is nothing. Fresh generations of club enthusiasts arrive each season, all eager to taste THEIR personal Ibiza experience for the first time… and so the Space team – from the owner, to the manager, through the staff, promoters, island workers and DJs – all remain ever-alert to the challenge of at least matching, often surpassing, their high expectations. The very best experiences of now are fused with the good practices from before, and as a result everyone, yes EVERYONE, comes away with the broadest of smiles and the happiest of memories, no matter what time of day or night they might eventually emerge from the mayhem. That’s the way it’s always been, and hopefully that’s the way it always will be.

Lost in Space… and LOVING IT!
Words: Ronnie Randall

I'll second that.

What a load of poo

The only 2 I liked were 2000 and 2001, the last 2 years have been pretty rubbish, I shall wait to hear what others say about 2004 before buying it

Yup the mixing is quite bad in places. :?

I really don't understand how record labels can release mix cd's with obvious mistakes! Bedroom dj's can practise sets to perfection and send out perfect mix cd's so why don't professionals?!

(and they probably get paid a whack for it too  )

In this case it's mixed by the Azuli boss so he can do what the funk he likes
