I had the extreme misfortune of seeing Avicii in Germany last weekend and, apart from the spectacular view over the Rhine, the gig was dreadful. It started promisingly enough with Benny Benassi warming up the crowd who, despite the rain and cold, seemed to be thoroughly enjoying his set. Then came Netsky who went down like a lead balloon, despite the desperate efforts of his MC to get some response from the masses (seems to me that if a DJ needs an MC to get the crowd dancing he's not doing his job properly). Not quite sure why they thought drum and bass would be a good idea, but it wasn't. Then Acivii finally came on and played one of the worst sets I've ever heard in my life. It wasn't just that it was dreadful EDM crap, but he seemed to have no idea how to work the crowd, there were just too many breaks with appalling vocals that destroyed the flow of the set. He even managed to f**k up his own track Bromance by adding some horrible vocals to it, not to mention ruining a number of other good tracks. If this is what passes for DJing in Vegas then they're welcome to it, but how he fills Ushuaia each week based on this performance I've no idea.
