ATMs in ibiza

Think you need to check with your card issuer. If its debit (electron/Switch/Solo) then i think u get charged for the currency conversion and if its credit card (visa/mastercard) then you will get a currency conversion charge and a cash handling fee..
If u live in the UK check out the post office Travel card, U buy it (costs a tenner) then load it with money (u choose the denomination.. EURO/Sterling/Dollar) and then can use it in ATM's with the VISA sign.. if u load it with EUROs and going to Ibiza it shudnt cost u anything to withdraw cash.
Saying that i wud investigate it as i only scan red the leaflet!!

What your bank charge depends, obviously, on your bank. Mine charges 3 euros per withdrawal on my dollar-denominated Visa debit card (plus the slight profit built into the exchange rate) and 0.5% on my euro-denominated Mastercard.

As for the bank that owns the ATM, most of the ones in Ibiza do not charge for the withdrawal. There is one bank (someone help me with the name... there a branch a block from the ramp to Dalt Vila heading to the right as you face the ramp... past the across from the pharmacy) that charges 2 or 3 euros per withdrawal.

Open a Nationwide Flex account with a Visa Flex card, they do not charge for withdrawls abroad. They advertise this all the time on TV. Also, they give you the Business exchange rate for the Euro instead of the Tourist rate. Been using this method for a year now, works great. :D

I have ex-pat friends on mainland Spain who put me onto this, that is what they use as they can use internet banking with it too. They live in Spain all year round but still bank with Nationwide.

i don't understand what you mean by this "they can use internet banking with it too", use it for what?? you can do internet banking from anywhere on the globe. are you talking about in relation to doing international bank transfers?:?

i thought Nationwide's offer only applied to cash withdrawals and not wiring money.

I saw an ad in DDI from a paper the other week about Halifax's spanish banking (i think they are connected to Banco de Santander) and they actually offered the service of 'free' international transfers, which would be of interest to some ex-pats i'm sure.

Erm, thought that was obvious. Yes, with internet banking they can control their accounts, move money, setup standing orders, etc., etc., just as if they were still in the UK. :D

but you make the point that being with nationwide somehow enables them to do this or has a particular advantage..............all banks offer this service. being the in the UK or not has got nothing to do with. the internet is the only important location.

I have a Nationwide Flex Account Visa Debit card - Sure I got charged for withdrawels last year :? Unless it's recently they have given free withdrawels... Mind you it all depends on the ATM you use doesn't it... Nationwide might not charge me but the machine I take my money out of probably will !

Still.... safer than taking 100s of Euros with me.... (unless I lose my card)

:spank: No I didn't! That's your mis-interpretation, re-read my original post. :?

Yes, I know.

The point you somehow missed was not about Internet Banking, but, about withdrawing money abroad without charges. ;)

My ex-pat friends live in Spain, but, bank with Nationwide in the UK.......because they can due to Internet Banking........but..........the advantage being...... they don't get charged for withdrawing their money from ATM's in Spain.

If that's not clear enough then I give up. :?
