Anyone good with car stereos?

Bit of a random thread, but there you go thats me sometimes.

I have a manufacturers (Ford) 6 disc player in my car, its not one that goes in the boot either, its all in the dash, so you put 6 discs in there at one point.

It is a rather noisy contraption but it does work anyway.

Until last night. Work mate copied me a CD I was looking forward to listening to on the way home. Thought it was time for a CD change around so I ejected the 6 CDs I had in there and thought I would just put the one in there and start again with my listening collection. I did this and then I put the new CD in and it has swallowed it!!!!!!

I now cannot get the CD out as its not registering, I therefore can not put any more in. Its like its jammed.

I now have no idea what to do. Can listen to no CDs and there is one stuck in there :spank:

If I have to get Ford involved its bound to cost a fortune.

I did have a feeling it was going on the blink ages ago as the last few months its not been reading the discs even brand new ones from shops ie not copied ones but I thought a cleaning CD would sort that out.

I now have nothing!!!! Help.....................................

sounds like its fooked.

you're from saffend... surely u must know someone who is "good with stereos"?

normally in single slot cd players, theres a hole u can stick a pin in to force eject the cd... im assuming your cd changer cartridge is one with the flappy trays... in which case, you might have to take the unit out and dismantle it. either somethings broke, or the cd has slipped off and is jamming.

I will need the pins anyway to get the contraption out - its big - but I have no idea what will happen if I do that, I am worried about pulling it all out and its a complete mess.

May mean buying a shop CD player as opposed to a Ford one.

I reckon the latter could be right - the CD has slipped and its not registering it at all

Personally I'd junk the Ford one and replace it with something better, although it's a slippery slope once you get in to any Audio/Visual upgrade whether home or car.It always begins with me changing one component to then realise something else needs replacing then something else and then before long the £300 I planned to spend has become £1000!!

The other option is to get a second hand one from Ebay or scrap yard?

May be worth dis-connecting the car battery for 2 mins, then try it again after re-connecting, some of them automatically spit everything out on re-connect, make sure you have any codes to reset and put the keys in your pocket when you do it, as some cars shut the windows and lock the doors also on re-connect, And don`t you look a pri*k when it happens to a customers car with the keys in it,
Have a good one

I'm afraid to say it's a common fault with the male human being:)
