Just wondering how sucessful people have been at finding work if they werent on the island until mid june? I have an open university exam on June 11th and will be heading over as soon as ive set my pen down. I have enough money to back me up if i dont find a job straight away but was hoping to get the working on ibiza experience rather than the extended holiday experience.

Yeah would of thought you should be ok finding work around that time!

I know of people that went last year around june time and they found it easy to get work!8)

thats a perfect time to come over and take over from the first round of bar/waiting on staff who wanna chuck in the towell and also, all the club events will be recruting around then too.

:D :D

cool, my husband will be pleased about that too. weve been going to ibiza for about 6 years now and have been saying for about the same sort of time that we would go out and work but weve been to lazy or not had the cash. Were probably going to book a pakage deal for the first 2 weeks and then try and arrange accomodation when we get there. is there anywhere that is popular for workers to stay? any places to avoid?

i'd say 80-90% of british workers for the summer live in san an, which is the best place to be to find the type of jobs you'll end up doing.

places to avoid?? nah, not really.........suppose for convenience it's better to be in central san an but really it doesn't make that much difference.

Yeah, I thought San An but I was kind of thinking specific apartments - looking for something affordable but clean, preferably without a huge deposit, would also like to know if anyone has any real horror stories about their accommodation.

Was also wondering on the job front how most employers work?....

will they trial you for a night or two before hiring you?

when and how do you generally get paid, is it weekly pay or at the end of each shift?

any employers-bars/cafes/clubs to watch out for-the horror stories of people not getting paid and that sort of thing?

I worked for a web company that owned "pods" that punters paid 2 euros to take their photo, which was then emailed to a friend of your choice.

After a disastrous summer and poorly-organised wind up of the firm, I was paid my final wages in coins - 700 euros worth.

:eek::eek:

I was fairly confident I wouldn't get mugged tho. Imagine trying to scarper with that lot.

was it Spaced??

Correct. However this advice is not that practical as they're no longer in operation.

The following doesn't apply to Spotlight, who I judge the best employer I've probably ever had, but if you work in Ibiza set aside a week or two at the end of the season for debt collection.

when did you work for spaced........i knew a couple of people who worked for them.

good concept, but made obselete with the development of camera phone technology

most jobs pay weekly, bars, restaurants, shops, etc, etc.

PR/club event type jobs will pay weekly too, usually the start of the week after the event so you can receive whatever commission you might have earnt.

it's rare that you'll get paid monthly as the turnover is so high from week to week.

Who did you know?

I started in 2000, at Base Bar in a PR capacity. My job was to get celebrities - from anywhere on the alphabetical scale - to have their photo taken with those pods. I specialised in 80s/90s pop stars - I got Neneh Cherry, Darren Emerson and all of Right Said Fred.

I asked Kate Moss but she said no.

:oops::oops:

In 2001 and 2002 I provided content for their Ibiza microsite.

Re: technology, unfortunately the photos were a bit sh1t. They went under before the advent of camera phone technology so they can't use that as an excuse.

They were owned by a large US conglomerate called United Business Media who pulled all the funding in the wake of September 11.

im going 20th may.

would love to work at mambo or one of the sunset cafes.

is that too much of a long shot?
