Obvs not the train from Barca to Ibiza!

Just wondered if anyone here's had any experience and can give tips. Thinking of a bit of a retirement present to myself - first class/top deck and an overnight in Barcelona and either the plane or ferry to Ibiza.

Think the ferry's a good 8 - 10 hours (oh, the drinking time) and wonder if anyone's done that. Thanks!

only Paris/BCN/Ibz
it was a long time ago year 2000, at the time i used to have a halt at BCN spending 2-3 days, b4 going to Ibz (boat or plane)
The ferry was quiet long trip, landing ibz harbor the morning, since this day, no more ferry as it's a very long trip (maybe i should drink that day as it was quiet exhausting all this waiting in the boat and didnt succeed to sleep) but only plane from bcn to Ibz.

You have liked the air French controllers strike?
You will love the French rail company :D
Those lovely French air traffic controllers are one of the three reasons I avoid Europe in general and Ibiza in particular during July/August! Isn't it a coincidence that the most strikes are during the holiday season? Amazing....

There is some strike along holidays, but fortunately i never experience Strikes on the way to/from ibz along 20+ trips from Paris.
only Taxi strike...

I've done the overnight ferry before, really enjoyed it.
Ended up on the deck playing poker with 5 others, all different nationalities which made it more interesting, all drinking vodka.

April 1st? *checks calendar*

Note, April 1st is a traditional day in the UK and elsewhere for playing practical jokes.

Looking at the map (a) wtf; (b) nothing to link to the airport which should be a given...

If you are going to have a tram, what about a Blackpool-style one which starts in Ibiza town, joins the coast @ Figueretas (maybe through the tunnel?) and follows the coast/prom right down to PDB and maybe even extend it inland, round the hill and down to Salinas beaches? At least it would be a tourist attraction!

But anyway if there are to be trams on Ibiza, start with the airport!!

28 Dec in Spain "el dia de los inocentes" = 1 Apr in UK so I'd say a healthy pinch of salt with that one!

as for the London - BCN stretch, I've done it many times. I even wrote a book featuring a few yarns on that journey.
the most fun bit for me is the sleeper from Gare D'Austerlitz to the border although I think you have to change at Perpignan now for the BCN (Sants) train. In Paris, you also have to allow plenty of time to get across town from the eurostar. I think they are phasing out the sleepers altogether though so you may need to check. The Man in Seat Sixty One is the ultimate authority on this.

yes it's called the Lusitania.

unless you go first class, the food isn't all that though, so take your own

print off your tickets o'wise they get hissy

and watch your stuff at Charmartin station. slight seedy edge
