anyone done the total change of job thing???

a year ago i was an actuary
i hated my life

now after a LOT of study and sweat and tears
i am a professional poker player...
i play mostly 4 to 8 tables on the internet
and so far this year i have earned more than i would have in the city

no other job in the world could have me in my pjs, smoking a big un, at 8 in the morning, listening to house choons, as sad faced commuters streamed past my window... shouting "show me a queen"

it funking rocks

Wow thats a pretty drastic change!

Good for you but personally I would hate to be sat at home all day playing cards with a computer screen :?

It sounds like quite an unreliable job aswell... like, would you list that as your current occupation if you wanted a mortgage :?:

btw if any one is ionterested in this line of work i suggest you study a lot

you need to at least read

Internet texas holdem - hilger
Small stakes holde em- miller et all
theory of poker - slanksy

these are the essentials imho

i qahve read a few more but that should be enough to get you going

I left my job of 5 years to start recruitment in sept last year. I got fired last week. Ya win some, ya loose some

in my job you really do need to win some more than you lose some

Fair play to you Discodude...its a bit of a lonely old existence though eh?

Do you play live? I'm guessing you do. I play at The Gutshot & The Vic now and again and some home games...much more of a laugh than the old internet!

Which site(s) do you play on? limit or no limit? Tourney's? etc.

I supplement my salary quite nicely to the tune of (on average) £500 a month I would guess - but then I'm not battering it day in day out like your goodself :D

Plenty of 'fish' out there eh? 8)

Cheers for the book tips - I would add Doyle Brunson's Supersystem to your list and a cracking read is Andy Bellin's Poker Nation..mixes his personal experiences (funny) with strategy (basic compared to your list)

Inside Edge magazine (monthly) is a cracking read as well if I say so myself! :D (bit of a vested interest here)

i play mostly limit multitabling
at 3/6 usually
have recently started the $50 sngs to big success too

and ye i go to the gutshot sometimes

i dont really get lonely
i love the fish out there
play mostly empire, party and stars....

wasnt a huge fan of brunson
i think because he reminds me of frank butcher
but essential for any self repecting pro
however i would easily recomend 3 or 4 books (after the trhee above) before his

i am a regular poster at
www.internettexasholdem.com
(am even in their members section :))
