Any T-Mobile users coming from the USA? How is the cell service in Ibiza?

Just like the title states. I am going to purchase a T-Mobile sim card here in the USA and use it while I'm in Europe. How is the service out there?

you'll be on roaming with a spanish provider (movistar, orange, vodafone) and service reaches from none to excellent, depending where you are :)

Hey there...also an American heading over (in July)..also a T-Mobile user. I'll very most likely just be swapping out my SIM with a Vodafone SIM on a prepaid plan of some sort. Avoid those roaming charges!!! ;)

Btw, heading there alone or with another/others? I'm going with my girlfriend from the 9th-15th, shoot me a message if you want to meet! It's my second time going, her first :)

you do know that T-Mobile has free data roaming, albeit at a very low speed?

Will do! Did you join the FB group for all of us solo travelers? We're already getting our club itineraries planned out. It's gonna be sick!

Yes, I am a Verizon user here in the states and I would be buying a T-Mobile card just for their free data roaming. I have a Iphone "world" version which works anywhere.

free data roaming can be hit or miss.... i've seen it work well in London, poorly in Panama. i suspect in Ibiza you'll end up using wifi when available.

I didn't know that, but wouldn't I be better off using what the 'locals' use? I'd rather not take the chance and death-star destroy my wallet...

That's what I did the first time going, but this time around I want to be able to use data as I normally would in any venue with out WIFI.

If you want to be posting to instagram, things like that, the free data is way too slow. if you just want to use it for maybe whatsapp texting or checking emails, it will work for that.

as long as you aren't on your phone all the time, and you shouldn't be in Ibiza ;-) you probably could get away with the free data.

Just in case this helps any travelers coming from outside Europe like myself.

Spoke to a friend of mine who travels and blogs for a living. She said just swap your SIM card at the airport with a local european carrier such as Vodaphone. Cheap and easy. Just make sure your phone is a GSM or "world" version of the phone.

no doubt that's the cheapest way to do it... however your # changes to a local # so yo can't receive text messages or phone calls sent to your current cell phone #

my tip for that is to have a google voice #. i've traveled to canada a lot from the states, and i usually just switch my iphone to airplane mode, but if i'm on wifi, anyone can get a hold of me via that google voice number through the app, not just people with iphones. with iphones, you can sms/mms on wifi with the iphone on airplane mode, but anyone without an iphone can't sms/mms that number. granted, google voice doesn't do mms yet, it's still a great alternative.

My girlfriend has t-mobile and free data worked great while we were there last summer. We drove all over the island and used the phone as GPS using google maps and also streamed music on soundcloud with solid service. No issues posting on facebook/instagram and any you are better off posting once you're back at you condo or hotel on wifi...have more fun in the moment! You can make calls using apple facetime audio, viber, facebook, or any other apps. I was going to get a local card for my phone but her phone ended up being all we needed.

Did you need to do anything special with your plan? I have the post-paid T-Mobile, so I get the free soundcloud/spotify streaming, 1GB data then the unlimited sloowwwww data once I use that up. All you did was just use as normal? sounds crazy to me, but hey if it's easier and doesn't rape the wallet, i'm all in. I agree on what you say...live in the moment.

She has an unlimited plan here. I will find out the exact details later and let you know. She also called TMobile before to be sure as we spent a week in berlin and ibiza.
