Another program on last night...

But I can't remember the name of it

It was about people born with facial deformaties... it was based on a particular syndrome, which causes the skull to be deformed, along with the hands and feet.
The story followed 3 people, one was a baby, one was about 7yrs old, and one was a girl of 20.

Wow - this documentary really opened my eyes a lot. The way society is based totally how you look, the fact that these three people, who were as intelligent as the next person, would be treated so differently just because of the way they look.

The older girl, Hayley, dreamed of being a nanny, and had been refused from several jobs, probbaly because of the way she looked.
The program ended with her getting her dream job, working in Greece as a Childrens Rep... it was amazing to see how much she had acheieved dispite her disability :D

Did anyone else watch this :?:

Saw it too.. it was a quality program.

Makes you think at how pathetic we sometimes are when we worry when have a spot or a coldsore or another lame distinguishing feature.. and then you have that girl Hayley who's always smiling and gets on with her life. .

Wasnt her sister pretty too??

Was also touching to hear about the parents reaction when they found out how their baby looks like.

It certainly put things in perespective... all the time I've moaned because my skin/hair/weight is having a bad day, then you watch that and you think why the funk was I moaning!!

Hayley's sister was very pretty, makes you think what Hayley would have looked like if she hadn't been born with Apert's ( I think thats what it's called :? ).

And those two little boys who were twins? One had the face of angel whilst the poor other lad had such a disfigurement :(

I know. I was nearly in tears when their mother was talking about the first time she saw him after she gave birth. Must be so difficult to cope with, when you imagine what your son might look like during your pregnancy and then they turn out to have this disease.

Luckily it seems like all these kids come from very loving and strong families. Guess they have to be to cope with everything. Like some of the bullying that Hayley put up with at school

It sucks doesnt it, kids can be so cruel.

Agreed - brilliant programme. Society is full of shallow funkwits only interested in satisfying their own egos...or that's how I felt when the credits rolled.
Wasn't it a lovely moment when she got that job tho? :D

one of my best friend's girlfriend just had a baby on Monday morning - a gorgeous little girl - and the look on their face was amazing. It's such a huge moment in someone's life that I can't imagine what it would be like if your child is not what you expected, physically.
It's often harder for the parents than it is for the child, some of the kids have great character.

That lass that went abroad to work as a Nanny was inspiring. Her courage and strength was incredible.

These are the real people who deserve to be honoured etc..
