Amsterdam Advice

Hello everyone

I've not posted on here for a while so hope everyone is full of the joys of life :D

I have booked a surprise 5 night trip to Amsterdam for New Year so have some questions for you knowledgeable people:

Club listings - closer to the time, is there a decent website for club listings in Amsterdam or is it a case of trawling through individual clubs/DJs sites?

Restaurants - any good recommendations (bear in mind we are both veggies so nice steak houses please :spank:)

Ajax stadium - there's obviously no games on while we're there but is the stadium tour and museum worth a visit?

And then apart from the obvious (coffee shops, Anne Frank, sex) is there any other must-dos in Amsterdam?

Thank you muchly :D xx

Hey you. What hotel did you pick? Did I ever get back to you on that? I remember seeing your note while I was traveling but don't remember if I responded  If not, very sorry!

Resident Adviser has good Amsterdam club listings.

We had a good Indonesian meal at this place:

The Supper Club is a fun evening out. Double-check if they have veggie-only options but I'm sure they would.

(just checked the site and found out they have one in London now, which kind of kills all the fun, but you can go to the original, or even the boat cruise version)

Tom will enjoy the Heineken (it really does taste better there) and Belgian beers at the pubs. We really really liked this one:

Nice people and they handed out cookies during the holidays :D

I went out to the Ajax stadium but didn't take a tour. Didn't look like anything special, to be honest. Some interesting shopping around there. It's quite a distance from the center.

The Anne Frank house is a very touching experience. You can do the Rijksmuseum and Rembrandt house for a bit of art and history.

I LOVE amsterdam! U will have a great time whatever you do. The ppl are so nice.
Theres a a tiny pancake restaurant at the end of the red light district (it claims to be the smallest restaurant in the world) which is amazing.
Apart from that all recomendations are chemical based so best not go into those haha

Ahh thank you both :D

John, we went for a private apartment in the end so we could be really central. Thanks for all the links, they look wonderful, just the kind of thing I'm after :D

Re The Supper Club, I have heard a few people mentioning it with really contrasting views - is it poncey? I don't mind paying a bit for a nice meal but is it one of those places where it's all style over substance?

Style is paramount but the substance was good enough to justify it, I thought.

I'm sure you've heard the story but you basically just spend an evening lounging around on a bed running up an expensive bar tab  They bring the food out in waves (4 or 5 courses, set menu). Good DJ playing and people got up and danced in between courses.

I dunno... I could easily see why people would criticize it but we had a fun time :) Just a nice way to spend an evening. Ends early enough that you can go out after.

The Supperclub is brilliant!

A fantastic night out, like going to the Cafe Del Mar, followed by a good meal, a show, a trip to a coffee shop and a chill out back at your mates, all rolled into one!

Well worth the visit.
