Amnesia or Space Opening?

Hi I am planning to return to Ibiza for the first time in a long while for either the weekend of May 24th for the Space / dc10 opening parties or alternatively the weekend after for the Amnesia opening (early mid-life crisis!) and I am just wondering which will be the better weekend to have good times.
Any feedback or opinions from people more in the know would be greatly appreciated. Obviously line ups are a factor and these have yet to be finalised but typically which openings have the best vibe?

Is money a factor? You've left it fairly late to book. I've not checked, but willing to bet you'd get a better price on flights for May 30th & 31st weekend compared to the Opening weekend the week before.

Probably better availability on accommodation too.

The Amnesia line-up is incredible imho (arguably it'll be better than Space's, which has been subpar in recent years - although the spectacle can be adequate enough).

DC10 the week after opening week will be a lot more pleasant. Opening week it'll be rammed to the rafters and full of tourists.

Therefore I'd recommend going for Amnesia Opening party. But maybe I'm a hypocrite as I'm going the week before! Be interested to read other members', particularly Stivi's recommendations.

If you havent been to a Space opening/closing before its definitely something to be seen, its the only time the car park is open with the huge stage, plus also you can almost go straight from Space to DC10 afterwards - something you havent been able to do on regular nights for some time now since the law passed to reduce clubs opening hours.

On the flip side, the Amnesia opening is something of a marathon, which can be very good too

But if I had to choose, I would go for Space/dc10 - purely because, for me, this has always marked the start of the summer season!
 
it is a pretty difficult decision this year that's true...let's have a look at both those weekends

weekend one - which is still the 'official' opening weekend has...

- sankeys opening parties wed & thu (I like wed line up myself)
- IMS dalt vila parties thu & fri (I like thu line up myself)
- a few events to choose from saturday (but no huge event that's true)
- space opening and solomun+1 opening on sunday
- dc10 opening on monday
- tribal sessions opening on tuesday

weekend two, which basically has gotten more importance simply because ushuaïa has moved its opening date offers...

- FMIF opening party on thu
- destino opening on fri daytime
- privilege opening on fri night (no line up available yet)
- ushuaïa opening on sat daytime into night (no line up avail yet)
- amnesia opening sat night until sun 12 noon (strong line up)
- a few events to choose from on sunday, but no biggies
- a normal dc10 session on monday
- cocoon opening on monday night

for me it's pretty hard to give a recommendation to be honest, both weekends have lots of good stuff. weekend one is special because of the IMS parties up in dalt vila and seeing space opening in its full glory as mentioned further above. weekend one will be busier overall, but, because of weekend two being stronger than ever before, maybe it's actually not THAT packed on weekend one now and both weekends are a bit more balanced in terms of crowd - weekend two used to be a pretty quiet one to be honest.

I'd say, if you want to do the proper openings once, do weekend one. if you're very much into certain artists/sounds and you can afford to wait a little longer (risking flights might get more expensive), wait until line ups for weekend two are out so you can decide basing on this...

both weekends will be great though - you can't pick a 'wrong' one :)

Yeah don't think there are any wrong answers here…IMS d'alt villa events offer something a bit different and the Thursday line up is solid, also Space opening line up should be better this year what with less clashes that weekend.

On the other hand the other weekend still offers big opening events as well as a lower key Circo Loco which can be a godsend and Cocoon Opening…Its like Sophie's choice!
 
Cheers for the very informative feedback, sounds like both weekends are top class. Flight and accommodation availability and prices may well decide it for me. Anybody else with opinions feel free to offer them.
 
Thinking about going for week-end 2, landing on friday for destino opening, amnesia saturday and sunday and then dc10 and cocoon, but was wondering what time u thinking cocoon will close for the opening ( not the after just amnesia?) Thanks ;-)

Cocoon Opening would probably go on to 8-9AM. @stivi always remembers these things...

thanks for the reply ;-) Was thinking to go to dc10 and then straight to Cocoon@Amnesia but was hoping that amnesia would go later then that, Cocoon after are not has good has they used to be(just my opinion, time has past since the calla longa after on the beach ;-) ) What time do you thinking dc10 is going to close that monday? Thanks ;-)
 
Have decided to go for Amnesia weekend, flight times and prices decided the issue plus its a bank holiday Monday here in Ireland so a day less of annual leave being used up. Really looking forward to it, been off the scene for a while.
Last time I was in Ibiza was at a Manumission closing party in Privilege, think Fat Boy Slim was on the bill. Hope I will have the stamina for this. Wonder is there light snacks or fruit available in the morning to allow you to stay at venue till the closing set.

there's a hot dog stand just outside amnesia where you can grab one if you get hungry.
also, at the bar at the far end of the terrace, to the right (to the right of the DJ looking at the DJ) they got a coffee machine and sometimes they get fresh croissants in the morning too.
