AMD vs Intel

Option A)

Reason : My dad tells me, I don't know but he knows computers and builds all of his and ours and all of them for his company so knows his shiz niz.

I'd choose the Intel, but that's because I'm resistent to change.

I've heard the AMD chips are quite good, especially that high performance series you're looking at. Then again, those Core 2 Quads are monsters.

Are you a gamer or do you do serious video editing or music?

Cool stuff.

Well, AMD is a better value/money proposition but those Core 2 Quads would be your best bet as they are truly a step ahead. Expensive processors, but everything I read (mostly on Engadget ) says they are sweet.

the athlon if i remember correctly is a dual core processor.

the intel is quad core.

So windows, or whatever operating system you run thinks it's using 4 processors if you use intel. two processors if you run AMD.

Obviously, the more processors, generally the better performance.

So the Intel is the hands down winner here.

However, both are really designed for 64 bit Operating systems. Unless you use Windows x64 or another 64 bit OS, then you arent using the full capabilities of the system, and it may not be worth spending all that money on a processor you cant really utilise to the full.

I've always gone Intel but it really depends on what you actually want to do with the PC. If you're just browsing the net and doing office type stuff then a modest spec will do. If you're a gamer then the spec of the graphics card may be even more important.

If you are not running a CAD program the AMD will work fine for you. Take the extra cash and upgrade something else.
