Hi everyone - I haven't been to Ibiza before and wondered if there is any where on the island that I can hear jazz,latin or salsa sounds. Could anyone recomend me any bars or clubs to hear this type of music. Thanks 8)
 
there are some parties where the housemusic is more latino oriented, altho latino house was bigger a few years ago (let the argument begin) - but last year a few good hits with latin feel also came across. I dunno for sure, but maybe people from ibiza or balaeric people might have some inspiration in their dj set ups? anyone know this for sure???
 
alternative music is an odd name for jazz and latin.

anyway off the top of my head you could try

azucar in san antonio bay - on the main drag by the khumharis turn off - frequented by south americans and they do dance classes as well.

tropicana on cala jondal on sunday afternoons

playa pinet beach bar on san antonio bay is now run by one of the guys from 'sandombe' a fab rhumba band and they tend to have somewhat adhoc jazz sessions there at the drop of a hat plus cool sounds during the day for lazy sunbathing

there is also our famous jazz festival at the end of july (see our news section)

the figueretes area of ibiza also has lots of south american immigrants who hang out in bars like caribe (mackie is that the right name) which has a fairly high sleeze factor

and es baruguet at cala bassa had tango sessions last year and various live bands/musicians.

in the west end angel's bar es reco is totally salsa all night and worth the trip

teatro peyrera in ibiza has live jazz/soul/blues 6 nights a week

reco verd in san jose has thursday/saturday jazz sessions

villa mercedes has jazz on a sunday afternoon

guarana in santa eulalia has friday/sunday funk and jazz

is that any use?
 
another recommendation are the jazz/chillout/ flamenco events with the guitarist paco fernandez (famous for his collaborations with josé padilla on the cafe del mar compilations):

· thursdays at kumharas (ataamará fusion concept)
· fridays at la diosa (fandango)
· saturdays at villa mercedes
· sundays at savannah

tonight i stopped at racó verd for a beer and they told me that the concerts finished last week!! :idea:

coincidentally i was on pinet playa last night watching a really good bass, guitar, drums trio. the next session is on friday 10th september when the sax and trumpet players are due in for some hot blowin'! it's a seriously good alternative to all that commercial nonsense across the water plus normal drinks prices!
