just seen news saying there,s delays upto 4 hours for extra security at european airports, ha anyone just come to Ibiza or left Ibiza who can shed some personal light on this, flight home is at 10pm, dont really want to be at the airport dont really want to be at airport at 4pm or 5pm for a 10pm flight, but also dread missing flight home :(
Is there extra security when you arrive at airports or just when you fly out from airport , ta,

The Daily Mail that has long championed 'Tighter boarder control' and countries like the UK 'taking back control of our borders'.

I'd say you could not write that shit- but they have

It's good news that Ibiza isn't yet affected - is this because their security systems are perfect already...or is it because these "new systems" that are causing the delays aren't yet in place at the airport?

I always travel off-peak (ie never in July/August) and that's to avoid the inevitable "let's hammer the tourists by having strikes" season from air traffic controllers to baggage handlers. And the place is too crowded for my liking anyway!!

Anyhow - very rarely have I lost time at security, passport and so on there - however if hold-ups of over an hour become commonplace then I'll take my cash elsewhere.

Whilst this isn't specifically an EU thing - it's s system in place to check non-Schengen citizens entering/leaving Schengen countries, I voted to remain as I saw this kind of thing coming - and just now the only way to avoid it would be for the UK (even if we do, eventually, leave the EU) to join the Schengen zone - but we won't as that involves freedom of movement acceptance (I think).

Yes, it's bizarre that the UK's worst rags have been moaning that Europe's borders are too open, yet when security is intensified they whinge and moan about getting what they asked for. Pillocks.

Could always get the train to Barcelona and fly domestically I suppose....if I got the ferry I might pass too much of the time drinking....

If thats the price to pay to be that little bit safer then so be it. Or just get to the airport earlier. . . .simple.

(Post isn't directed at you more so I agree with it)

Maybe when we are out the EU, UK airports can abolish the EU/UK Passport line and make it UK passport line and EU line seperate, will save a little bit of time.

Would be nice to get home quicker (Manchester T1 is appalling for us and everyone else) but TBH I'd like a balance where it's the same at both ends and people are screened efficiently. It WILL add time on if we have to have some kind of e-visa; even if it's all electronic there will be somone ahead of you in the queue where there's a problem, grrr.

As it stands now, the most affected are those on a very short break where an hour lost is a high % of their available time. On the bright side, if someone's queuing they're not spending, so it boosts the local economy if passengers can get through quicker!!
