can a abbey visa electron bank card be used to get money from the santander banks free of charge.
i heard this somewhere. it is because i am moving to ibiza and dont want to take cash over?

Remember that if banks don't charge you a fee then they are making it back via the exchange rate. We opened an account with SOLBANK which is a division of Banc Sabadell that is designed for foreigners, consequently all the staff speak English and German. You can transfer money from the UK via Currencies Direct to them free of charge, they give a good exchange rate too.

Additionally Halifax are opening a branch in Ibiza town this year which might be a better alternative.
 
Nationwide Flex is the best UK I found, free withdrawal and a reasonable rate,
I have a Solbank account, they speak English ( and most other`s that you would need) are very helpfully and will even phone you before you get overdrawn to warn you, A bit like English banks 20 yr`s ago. Recomended

ps If you get any Spanish bank account, beware of taking cash out of other bank`s machines, If I want the pleasure of getting 300€ out in San Carlos CAM bank instead of going to town, It will cost me €12 !!!!!
