Just before Christmas rooms on the second, third and fourth floors of the Don Carlos Hotel in the Siesta urbanisation collapsed; fortunately the establishment was not open to the public at the time and the night watchman had not yet reported for duty. The owners, the Fiesta Group, had been toying with the idea of partial modernization but now plans to completely overhaul the hotel are being mooted. The Don Carlos was inaugurated at the end of the 1960s and had been serving holidaymakers for more than forty years, (latterly, exclusively for adults) and the damaged floors, situated at the back, overlooking the sea, have now been cordoned off as a precautionary measure. The Fiesta Group will need permission from the Town Hall to carry out remedial work and are reported to have sought permission to completely demolish this section of the hotel in order to rebuild. The reason for the accident is still not known.
