Ok, I'm back home nearly a week now and still desperately trying to beat the post Ibiza blues. It always takes a couple of weeks for the holiday memories to turn to happy ones rather than just make me sad cos I am not there anymore!! So I figure, writing a review might help.
A couple of things before the review. This was my third time on the island and everytime i come back i say the same thing but this time, i really mean it!!! Next time I go, it will be for longer than a week. A week just isn't enough time, there are so many things that I didn't get to do. In a week, i just wanted to cram as much clubbing in as possible with no time to relax or enjoy the island, 2 weeks would allow you to do 1 days clubbing, 1 days relaxing which would be a much better holiday i think. Besides a couple of hours on Bora Bora one afternoon, I didn't even see a beach!!! After 6 days clubbing in a row, i was just exhausted and a week later, i still don't feel the better for it!! So, it’s 2 weeks minimum from now on although given that I spent over 2 grand in a week, I’d be scared to think what I would spend in 2 weeks!!
Secondly, having stayed in the Marina Hotel in San An and the Jet Apts previously, this year with 9 lads going, we stayed in a villa just behind privilidge. It worked really well, we could come and go as we pleased, make as much noise as we liked and generally do what we wanted. We all paid 150 euro deposit on top of the week's rent so we didn't wreck the place too much either. Obviously, it is a bit out of the way for going for food or drinks and normally was about 15 euro for a taxi to anywhere but with 8 other lads there was always 2 or 3 to share with so it wasn't much of a problem. The only thing was the big hill on the walk up to the Privlidge arches to the main road where we hailed the taxi's. You mightn't notice this if you only walk it the once but trust me after about 100 times walking it, you would notice!! I'd definitely recommend the villa option for a big group like that, it gives you more freedom although i did miss just being able to pop down to the pub/restaurant/shop/off licence like when we were in the Jet apts.
Ok, onto the review, i must admit this is not going to be great as a lot of my nights were a drunken druggy hazy mess but I'll try my best!!
We landed on sat 22nd and headed straight to Murphy's Bar in Playa D'en Bossa while we waited for the villa to be ready, this was our base in other years and is a great place to watch the football with a few drinks and with food nearby and obviously Space too. When we got to the villa, any fears we may have had about the place were soon out the window, it was fantastic. 5 big bedrooms with room to sleep all 9, a massive sitting room, a swimming pool, an area on the roof to sunbathe/drink/whatever. A really nice place all basically in Privlidge's back garden. Having started very early before we left ireland and then again in Murphy's, we decided that we would just get settled into the villa and although I know i made it to Privlidge that night, I'd be lying if I said i remembered any of it and don't think I stayed very long although we were still up beside the pool as the sun came up in the morning.
Sunday was probably our best organised day, we were into Murphy's early to watch the football and alternated between there and Bora Bora before heading up to Space for about half 11. As you can tell from my name, I really love space and I enjoyed walking around getting reacquainted with the place before settling down inside the discotequa for Felix Da Housecat. I've seen Felix a few times and he ranged from terrible to ok but he was sensational this time. Maybe it's just that anybody sounds better in Space but I don't think I sat down for his whole set and I don't care how many times i hear Silverscreen, that song always makes me shake my ass, even at half 7 in the morning!! If he had played for another 5 or 6 hours, i probably would have danced away but we left as the lights came up for some madness back at the villa.
Monday almost caused a split in the camp, rather than go to the Cocoon closing party (we actually made it as far as the queue before being told that we would have to pay 70 quid in, that after queueing for probably the best part of an hour), the ibiza virgins voted that we go to the west end. Words can't describe how much i hate that place so it gets no more of a mention, i went there under severe protest.
Tuesday night was probably the best of the week with Danny Tenaglia at Space. We were a bit late getting there, after 2 at least. I wasn’t really into Digweed before hand but I loved DT's set and even got to see a bit of Fedde Le Grand (I think) on terrace and he seemed to be playing some really good stuff in there as well. DT finished his set with a remix of an REM song and then joined in the singing himself (more on that later). We left space at around half 7 and were told that another party would be starting there at 8, the biggest regret i have of the week is that i didn't stay for that, damn my lightweight friends!! I should mention 3 very nice scottish girls that we met that night that took a few pictures of us in on the terrace but I lost their e-mail address so doubt I ever see those pics :-( I've been to space nearly 10 times now and I don't have 1 pic to prove it!!
Wednesday night, we decided to show off Amnesia to those who hadn't seen it. There was a foam party on and normally that would not be my thing at all but another trip to the west end was mooted which made the foam party seem like the best thing ever. I don't remember much from the night other than keeping a promise to myself to stay well away from the foam and I danced my little heart out on the terrace, it must have been late (well, early depending on how you look at it) leaving as it was bright and the walk back to the villa seemed to take an age!!
As part of renting the villa, we were put on the guestlist for the Monza closing party in Privlidge on Thursday. I have to say, that after 5 nights of drinking and illiegal substances, my body was about to give in. We got there probably too early, about 1. We thought it would be a good idea to go upstairs to sit on the beds and look down on everybody. While this was a good idea in theory, it made it very hard for me to get into the night. But it did lead to the highlight of the holiday. The VIP area was upstairs just beside us and who was there, none other than Danny Tenaglia himself. He was nice enough to have a few words with us as we told him what a great night he had given us. I told him what a great singer he was which he found very funny although i don't know how impressed he was when we said that was when we had to leave ha ha. He did tell us that he will be playing in Ireland next year which is something to look forward to. I took a while to get into the music being played but when the DJ changed around 4 (i think Ricardo Villaboos came on), the music became a bit harder and I enjoyed myself a bit more before giving up and heading for the villa at around 6. I really regretted that I didn't try to stay a bit longer as I lay by the pool listening to the music pounding until at least half 8!!
Friday was finally the relaxing day i needed. We did some shopping in San An, got something to eat and had a few drinks in the Bay Bar before heading back to the villa at about 3 as we had to be up at half 6 for an early flight. I'd forgotten how nice and relaxing that Bay Bar is and this is the kind in between clubbing day that I want to have a lot more of next time i go over!! A couple of the lads went to pacha that night but they had missed a few of the nights during the week and all in all i was glad with what i did.
So now, I'm back home with loads of regrets of what I didn't do but great memories of what I did do. I'm raging that I didn't do more day time clubbing but again I think that was because I was only there for a week and was trying to save myself for what we had planned that night. The island really is a special place and even though it's at least 8 months and probably more like 11 before I go back, i can't wait. I just hope these post holiday blues leave me soon!!!
