Okay I went over there for two weeks and stayed in Mykanos Town.
Now to make things a little easier to understand imagine Mykanos Island as being similar in shape to Ibiza.
Mykanos Town is very similar to Ibiza Town, full of small bars, restaurants, a few clubs and narrow winding streets which get busy after midnight with glamorous and beautiful people.
All the beaches, including Super Paradise, which is their version of Bora Bora, are on the other side of the island, which is their equivalent of driving over to San Antonio.
This is also where all the clubs are located. Clubs such as Cavo Paradiso and Club Pacha.
It doesn't have very good roads. Every time you drive somewhere its as if you are taking part in the World Rally Championships, so care has to be taken.
Mykanos has absolutely no drugs scene whatsoever. What this means is that everyone is just drinking, and those Ibiza veterans who believe they are truly hardcore will suffer trying to last the pace in Mykanos.
Nobody goes out till after midnight and at this time the place to be is the Town. Its bars are varied and busy. There is lots to do and discover but unlike Ibiza there is no big night to look forwards to such as Manumission or Pure Pacha, where you know everybody is going to go onto afterwards.
The people are a lot more stylish than in Ibiza, and dare I say it the girls are a lot more attractive. People are also a lot friendlier and approachable. The absence of any drugs scene can really be noticed and its refreshing talking to a girl without the subject of "e" or "coke" popping up.
Their is a club in Mykanos called Space, which has similar nights to Space Ibiza. We went a few nights, the music was great but the crowd wasn't that good. Neither was the club, which reminded me of a cheesy disco in 80s London.
People go to Cavo Paradiso at 7am! to party, and this is after drinking heavily all night in Mykanos Town. See what I mean about being headstrong without any additives! We never made it.
We did make a Friday night visit to Club Pacha however, which is located next to Cavo, for a subliminal party with Eric Morrillo and crew.
What can I say; Eric was on top form as always. The crowd however was pretty crap, full of young Italian boys.
After this visit we didn't bother visiting that side of the island again, apart from a Sunday visit to Super Paradise which was absolutely excellent.
Instead we focussed ourselves on Mykanos Town, and knocked raving on the head. As soon as we did this we began to have a lot of fun. Focussing on the bars, we mingled more with the locals, and visitors from Athens. Our holiday became what holidays used to be about before Ibiza, that is relaxing, and we all came away with a phone book of new contacts and fond memories.
To conclude, if you go to Mykanos looking for Ibiza you will be disappointed. If you got to Mykanos for what it has to offer you will be surprised. It is full of cool, beautiful and friendly people. The nightlife is different but still has a lot to offer. I will be going back.
