a question of tourism in europe

Next year we are thinking of doing a little trip to Ibiza and a biger one to a place in Europe, we are thinking of Italy and France but we are open to other sugestions.
We don't want a hollyday in a big city we would like to go to a concrete region like Tuscany in Italy and move around the region with car.
Suggestions?

I don't think anyone could ever call Tuscany a concrete region, think maybe you got the translation wrong there

Scotland is a beautiful country if you enjoy things like great scenery, countryside walks, outdoor pursuits, nature, mountains, villages etc. The further North you go the more beautiful IMO. Dont expect any big towns or anything there though.

But concrete is also like cement... like what buildings are made of. So a concrete region to me would mean a region with lots of conrete (buildings) in it!

great idea juana..........how about instead of doing it in france or italy, doing it on a mediterreanean island.

Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, Malta, etc, etc

It is personal choice but I prefer Italy to France. Milano (Lombardy) is my favourite city and you could actually drive from milano to tuscany/florence and other places, it'd probably only take a few hours.

Have you ever drove in Italy grego, in Norht Italy?
From the Stelvio to Milan there's only 180 km but we need more than 3 hours on the bike to do them

I didn't find too packed the Tuscany roads (the italians have a very strange way to indicate things but that's another story) but the norht ones like the ones around Lago Garda, Milan, Genova or some in the dolomites were a proper nightmare

yess very wrong translation!!!! I though!! what is the word in english for concreto??? ahhh yess concrete ( concreto in spanish is specific) I meant what Silvia says: specific. Just wanted to delimit the place, like if I go to Italy I would like to visit just a litle part and don't go from region to region and don't really see the place. Our idea is to settle in a specific place and pick up the car everyday to see the surrounding area.
I like a lot the idea of visiting villages, countryside etc
And Scotland is a great idea, maybe the north if you say is so nice, but I do not know If my friends would like to drive over there, but maybe trains, buses!!!
About 10 days cause I have august for hollidays and I want to be in Mallorca for the beaches, the terrazas and the summer fiestas. So not very long trip.

i haven't driven no, south of milano should be better though, sí??

Yes, south milano was better, Ravenna-Venice was another nighmare and french frontier- Genova was another big experience

autostradas are against road-trip philosophy imo, you don't see anything, just the Medas restaurants

i agree on your road-trip philosophy but if she only has 10 days, she can't be spending 3 of them getting from milano to firenze!

ten days for a concrete region lol: ) imo it's too much. We did Tuscany in 4 four days and we didn't left too much to do and see, at the end of the day, the landscape it's nearly the same near Florencia than near Sienna, and same for villages. And, even if you sleep in the very center of Tuscany, after ten days you'll get bored of driving every day around that place


If you are not up for a proper road-trip (sleeping just one or two nights in the same place) I would suggest try to find two regions to discover.

well, I didn't mention a road trip, I don't want to be all day in route.... because me and my friends we are the sort of person: maybe rent a villa with nice views, get up late, breakfast of 2 hours waiting that everybody is up, lets go to that village, have a look, maybe another village and go to have lunch, 4 hours to have lunch and coffee ,gastronomy is very important for us!!!, , tummy full sure lots of wine, lets go and see the shops and buy everything!!! or an excursion to that mountain and take a picnic, go one day to see a castle, at nigth a nice dinner in a nice place and a little bit of nigth life!!! this is our idea. So we need plenty of time...

THen Tuscany is perfect for you, but there's no night life at all, at least in the countryside.
THe region is fantastic and it's perfect for relaxing holidays and good eating and then you also have Florencia (imprescindible!), Sienna and lots of nice towns and villages.

On the other hand, why not in Spain? Have you been to Asturias? Is stunning, green, with great beaches and great cheap food, and lots of things to do an visit. I have travel a bit around Spain and it's definitly one of my favs places
