A Man & An Island: 2: "The Villa"

One bright summers day in June a young man boarded a British Airways plane from London Gatwick with a group of like-minded friends. Their destination - a magical, mystical island called Ibiza. They would spend the next 6 days living in a secluded villa overlooking Cala Jondal, spending their days chilling and their nights eating & partying. This is their story...

Actually it's not quite - I just thought that intro might be more fun than listing out where, when and how for my reviews of 2012 in Ibiza. This is the review of my second trip of the year - hope you enjoy!

Second trip of the season was one to treasure - a group of like-minded people, with varying levels of Ibiza experience (virgins to regulars), all together in a beautiful villa overlooking two bays.

A hotel is great if you want to be central and meet loads of other people. But if you have a good group of friends (and friends of friends), don't mind paying for a few taxis & doing a bit of driving, then a villa is brilliant. The ability to switch off from the world around your own pool, accompanied by tunes, a drink of choice and an amazing view is a beautiful thing.

From a practical point of view, villas are generally out of town so we had a couple of cars (great for heading out to see the island) and also got a few taxis (which were easy to order in June and generally not too expensive once shared between a few of us). Food is a real advantage - a few trips to the supermarket and some duty free shopping at the airport sorted breakfast, lunch, and plenty of pre and post party beverages.

We had people flying in and out all week so tried to do a whole range of stuff:

- Cala Jondal and Blue Marlin provided a lovely relaxed dinner and drinks venue one evening during sunset
- We partied all night for Renaissance at Pacha (which was busy enough for an atmosphere but also allowed plenty of dancing space), culminating in chatting to half-naked dancers at the terrace bar whilst sharing out the jaeger bombs.

- Lio was a first-night hangout for beers and some commercial tunes, followed by drinks in the old town
- Salinas gave us an afternoon of chilling on the beach and stuffing ourselves at Jockey Club
- Cafe Mambo was our final night destination, for the obligatory sunset and good grub, mixed with entertainment and people watching of the finest quality - whether it be a stag party, group of teenage girls post exams or even a family of four - everybody mingles and enjoys the spectacle

All in all a brilliant way to do Ibiza. Yes it may cost a bit more in terms of accommodation and transport, but once you factor in food & drink savings and the ability to switch off and have your own party, it's almost a no-brainer. Here's to many more weeks spent in villas in Ibiza, doing what we want and having the time of our lives!

really enjoyed reading your 4 reviews! amazing how many completely different experiences Ibiza can offer. There's a pretty big group of us going out next summer, and I'm looking at doing a villa for a week. How far out of town was your villa? Were you still able to get out and enjoy the towns/bar scene before the big clubs, or was it difficult to get everyone moving on the same schedule? The prospect of having your own private pool and party space sounds amazing, but I also love a trip through the West End to get pumped up for Cream or an afternoon at Bora Bora before heading into We Love...

Thanks Htrain!

Our Villa was about 10 mins from San An and 20 mins from Ibiza town - definitely still able to enjoy pre-parties and the like with taxis readily available. As for getting everybody going, we found that getting a core group to lead the way meant everybody else usually followed.

Would definitely recommend you guys getting one next year!
