A few Ibiza related questions

Not posted on the site before, but read almost daily and have done for last 5 years since going to island.

Like a lot of clubbers who visit the island, we're guilty of not exploring right much and are determined to this year. Booked for 9 nights for the ‘Opening' parties, booked Space and Dc10's and that's it, this year we will look round the island! Few questions the kind people of spotlight could help with;

Rental cars- most of the online firms seem to be pick up from the airport only, as we'll be mostly in clubs, on the beach or asleep for the first couple of days there's no point paying for a car straight away. Are there any rental companies in Playa d'en Bossa, or are the rates a lot higher, meaning it's easier to book in advance and get a cab to the airport when we actually want the car? Full/Empty or Full/full :twisted:

Planning on staying in Playa d'en Bossa for the first time, I agree with a few other posters on here like Kimajy who don't mind San An, and we are usually based there for a number of reason but don't know much about Bossa. As we're hiring a car-how easy is it to park a rental car there-street parking, car parks etc?

Formentera- going to visit the island for at least a day. Having read the reviews on here, I don't want to go to island and use the beach closest to the port and be disappointed. Someone recommended the Blue bar- will it be easy to get a taxi to, and more importantly back from there to port? And roughly how many Euro's might it cost? Many reports of hiring bikes, but this is not an option. Finally what are the beaches close to there like, or any other better suggestions

Benirras- Planning on going to this area at the weekend, as I want to enjoy the atmosphere and have a drink, thinking of getting a hotel somewhere in the north for the night. I'm sure whenever I'm in Spain (possibly everywhere abroad?) you have to register with your passport when staying at a hotel, hopefully not checking we're on Interpol's most wanted, will it matter that we'll already be registered at another hotel? Looking at staying in Puerto San Miguel, seems close and relatively cheap accommodation- will getting to and from Benirras be easy enough via taxi?

Just seen the picture of grafitti on the artwork at Atlantis, gutted as we were looking forward to trying to find this spot.

Probably have a couple more questions between now and May, but thanks in advance :)

A few thoughts - sure others will chip in with their agrees, disagrees and have you thought of's too !

Yes there are good local car rental companies in Playa d'en Bossa so unless you want to drop the car off at the airport on departure likely makes sense to hire from PDB. Many will bring the car to your hotel or pick you up and take you to the hire office for no extra charge. Of the international firms/franchises, Europcar have depots at Bahamas & Algarb & Sixt has a depot on Avda. Pedro Matutes Noguera.

It's not high season you're looking to rent in, so try these 2 firms

A Turbo - http://www.turborentacar.com/en/

Autos Manel (Playa d'en Bossa) - Tel : +34 971307192 [no website but very good and loads of cars on the island]

You could also see what price Moto Luis comes up with - discounts are available with this company via websites/blogs.

As to full/full vs full/empty - well, you've no doubt read the debates and ribbings on that one recently ! If you plan on criss-crossing the island a fair bit I wouldn't worry too much about a full/empty - I've driven enough miles in 2 days & nights on occasion to burn about 1/2 a tank (about 35Euros at the pump).. but just be prepared to write off whatever you don't use. However imho a full-full deal makes much more sense.

As we're hiring a car-how easy is it to park a rental car there-street parking, car parks etc?

Just use Jet car park if there's none at the hotel - or a space on-street (I got parked overnight right in front of Tantra even on Space closing party night).

Formentera- going to visit the island for at least a day. Having read the reviews on here, I don't want to go to island and use the beach closest to the port and be disappointed. Just a thought - would a scooter hire (Cooltra, Ritmo, A Turbo etc) from the port be do'able ? Gives you much more freedom to explore in a short time than taxis & buses.. since Quads are a crazy price.

Won't matter on the passport thing - I've checked in to a hotel in the North when I was too far gone to make it back to San An before - with no problems whatsoever ;) Can't imagine it would be a problem getting to and from Benirras from Puerto San Miguel by taxi - especially if you pre-arrange your collection time.

8O:evil: :!: Still go tho' - it's lovely anyhow.

Formentera - Blue Bar;
Easily do-able even if you are using the tourist ferries (cheaper, but go in the morning and return between 5 & 7pm) but the action there is usually in the evening when the sun sets (so even the more expensive ordinary ferries finish around 9pm - fancy a night under the stars??)

As for getting there from the port - it's not that far and there are several ways.
Bus (about one/hr) from the port to Sa Mari/Formentera Platja and a short stroll down the beach or a bus (every half-hour) to San Ferran and a walk down the road and via a track to Blue bar (buy a map!).
Cycle/scooter The port (La Sabina) has more than enough hire shops.
Taxi Plenty around, and as the island's small it's not gonna be too expensive.
Blue Bar did have it's own website (is it still up) which had menu's etc.

Cost? Tourist ferry and a bike would cost 30e then add your food/drink on top. Regular ferry + taxi you're hitting 60e.

Beach? By the Blue Bar it's long, but a bit rocky in places, better towards the south. The best beaches are on the Illetes/Levant peninsula and whichever way the wind blows, one side is sheltered!

What I'd do is get ont of the tourist ferries that comes back the latest (last ones leave around 7-730, I think Aquabus is the last) and on the island buy a bus day-ticket (around 7e) from the bus driver, and get a timetable (essential!). Spend a couple of hours or so on the pronomitory (Bus L1 and walk) and then bus to San Ferran (L1)c hange to bus to Sa Mari/Formentera Platja (L2)and walk down the beach to Blue Bar, getting the bus back from Sa Mari/Platja (L2) to the port.

Of course, the best thing about Formentera is ignoring what everyone says and doing the thing your own way :D
