Hello People,
I arrived back from Ibiza this morning and having slept all day now feel up to writing my review!
Ill set the scene first,
i travelled out on 9th August with my girlfriend Lydia and mate Fish from Manchester. We were due to meet our 9 friends from Essex (Charis, Louise, Lucy, Lauren, Claire, Sammy, Sam, Jezza and Tony) who had flown out earlier that day from Stanstead.
Every year i have been before my friend Ben has always come, yet this year he decided to give it a miss, or so i thought!
To my utter surprise whilst sat in the bar at Manchester Airport he turns up with his girlfriend! He had booked the holiday weeks ago and thought it funnier not to tell me and just turn up!! That was a great surprise and started the holiday off in great fashion!
And by complete co-incidence he ended up being in the same hotel as our Essex buddies (Hotel San Fora)
Thursday 9th August
We arrived in Ibiza at around 4am local time and to our horror the runway was wet as it had been raining!! It was still very humid but overcast. We got our bags and headed out to our coach which whisked us away to our hotel, Central City in San An.
We chose this hotel as we booked quite late this year and it has a superb location. And in all honesty i only see a hotel as a place to sleep as we are mostly out most of the day.
We arrived to find a rude Spanish man on the desk who charged everyone 60 euro's as a deposit for the room (the rep was equally puzzled by this as he said they had never charged before) and were given room 117 which was ground floor, and we had specifically requested not groud floor. On opening the door we were horrified, the decor looked like something from Beirut, there was no table or chairs in the room and our front door opened into the pool area. Even worse, the balcony backed onto the road which runs down to Savannah. We tried to get some sleep and sort it out in the morning but it was impossible because all we could hear was people shouting in the street.
Around 10am, after maybe 30 mins sleep we got up and went to reception to complain about the room. After 5 minutes of negotiating with a rather helpful lady we were moved to room 313. It had no balcony but was far far cleaner and nice than the previous room so we decided not to get down about it and just get on with our holiday.
\I never once on this holiday went in the pool area as it was full of chav knob heads and the pool was dirty IMO. Luckily our friends in the San Fora had a lovely pool area so went down there each day.
We sent texts to arrange to meet the others and headed for Bar M to meet. The weather was completely overcast and there was no chance the sun was coming out that day which was very upsetting!!
We made it to Bar M for around 3pm and met Ben and Teri (his gf). We decided to eat some food and have a few drinks whilst we waited for the others to arrive! Food was surprisingly nice.
The others arrived around 5pm, they had all been to Meganite on Wednesday and were feeling pretty rough but they soon perked up when we were all together having a great laugh.
Several drinks later we bought our tickets at Bar M for Cream from the blonde girl who works there, turns out she goes to Epsom uni with some of the girls from Essex.
We all went our separate ways to get ready after I dived on Louise in the sea water by Bar M which made everyone laugh loads as she has very frizzy hair and it takes her ages to sort it out when it gets wet!!
We got free bus to Cream from Bar M, there was a very small queue to get in and once inside we headed to the main room to catch a bit of Ferry Corsten and the ice cannon which was amazing as ever! We are all more into House than Trance so we headed to our fave room the terrace. OMG how good was the terrace that night!!
This was my fave night ever in Amnesia, I was completely blown away by Cassette Jam and Tocadisco!!
I have seen Ramirez many times so knew what to expect but the energy Tocadisco put in to their set was amazing and the music Cassette Jam played was sooooo good!!
Tocadisco were bouncing around the decks literally shoving each other out the way to mess around on the effects and levels. It really rubs off me when I see the Dj’s looking like their having the times of the lives! It really adds to the high and grin!
Ill never ever forget Michael Jackson – Beat it being dropped in the middle of some filthy tech house!! Also I heard Samim – Heater for the first time, and although I thought at this point it was cheesy it would turn out to be song off the season (being capped off by Luciano dropping it on the DC10 terrace as the sun went down)
We left the club about 6.30am and as only me, Lydia and Fish were staying at the back of San An we shared a taxi with two random workers called James and Rich and ended up back at our apartment for a small after hours party!! Probably not the greatest idea as going to bed at 10am very worse for wear took its toll Friday!!
Friday 10th August
Woke around 1pm feeling worse for wear to say the least. Looked out the window to see clouds, clouds and more clouds which added to the depression! I think it even rained for a few minutes!
Anyway we decided to go to Kanya for a bit and get an orange juice and see what the place was like this year. After being there for about 30 minutes sat under the shelter as the rain was belting down we decided it has never been the same since the old days and moved on to the poniente apartments pool bar round the corner to see if our old friend is still working behind the bar.
He still is 6 years after my first visit to the island which is quite funny, if you ever stay in poniente be sure to be nice to the bar man as he is a really cool guy!
With little or no sun we walked down to san fora to see the others who all were in similar states but informed us of their wanting to go to pacha that night. We agreed that was the plan and headed for food at David’s which Is probably my favourite restaurant overall and as our hotel was literally opposite it that made things easier.
After eating a very good pizza with the customary fried egg in the middle we headed to Mambo to get Pacha tickets. Unsurprisingly they had sold out when we got there so I thought this might be my chance to persuade the others to go to Azuli @ Space instead!1 (im not a huge fan of pacha anyway). We had also found some people we knew randomly from Colchester at this point (Helen & Shan) and so are numbers were up to 16!
Everyone was set for Space until we walked past Pussycat and they still had Pacha tickets left (Damn). So we paid out 47 euro and got a taxi to Pacha (dodgy taxi of course as the queue was about an hour long at the rank, the nice Argentine man let us have it for 10 euro each so it wasn’t all bad. Why are they all Argentine?).
Arrived in Pacha quite early, about 1am I think. Main room was already busy but a guy who kind of resembled Seb Fontaine was dropping some good tunes such as Dark Beat and Axwell’s I Found You.
Headed up to the roof terrace for a few drinks first. Big Mistake!! When we went back down an hour later the main room was unbearable, there were far far far too many people in there and moving around was so annoying it wasn’t worth it. (I don’t mind busy places, I really don’t. I love DC10 when its busy as it has a great atmosphere and people don’t constantly push and shove to get places, but in Pacha it is very much every man for himself). So we found ourselves in the Funky Room where we could actually dance. The music was a bit tame for my liking but something must have been good because before we knew it the time was 5.30am and the main room had breathing space so we headed back in!
Caught the last hour of Pete Tong who played some good stuff IMO. Faxing Berlin is one of my fave tunes at the moment so it was good to hear that!
Left at 6.30am and got taxi back to San An where we all went straight to bed!
I luckily fell straight asleep but some of the others were struggling due to having too many vitamins!
Saturday 11th August
We all woke feeling absolutely terrible, we had no real plans for this day as we didn’t want to go to the radio 1 event.
Once we had congregated by Bar M at 1pm we were accosted by most ticket people due to the large numbers in our group.
We weren’t interested at all until a fella named Rich came along and told us about Zoo. I had read on here before about the antics and decided it was too good too miss, so about half us bought tickets for the night part (we were too rough to do the boat trip) for only 21 Euro each (he gave some of the birds free passes, advantage of having lots of attractive women wit you).
We got some rays as the sun had finally come out then headed off to Zoo. Thoroughly enjoyed the night, quite surreal dancing in the seal enclosure. Stayed off the vitamins this night and headed back to the West End for a few bevies when it finished around 12. Nothing much else to tell, went to Charleys Angels for a bit which was ok.
Went to bed around 3.30am in an attempt to get some much needed sleep before the big day tomorrow, WLS!
Sunday 12th August
Woke up feeling worse than ever before in my life, why on earth did I drink last night! Should of just stayed sober. I really suffer from hang overs and should never of drank anywhere near as much as I did!
Anyway I told myself to get a grip (I was considering not going) or I would regret it big time if I didn’t go. We got ready and went to get a taxi from the West End where we were greeted with a rather large queue which is not what you want in 34 degree sun when you feel sick! I still didn’t have a tan due to only seeing the sun for a few hours on the whole holiday so I stood in the queue with my shirt of in an attempt to get one! After about an hour of queuing we got our cab, and also the most crazy Spanish taxi driver I have ever met!!
First thing he said was ‘its time to start the race, buckle up and don’t worry I’m a semi professional at this’ which already had me ****tin bricks. What was so semi professional/??????
He drove down the new motorway (which is very nice) at speeds of over 170kph and steered really erratically when over taking and I kept thinking he was going to lose control. But I must say he kept talking to us all the way and laughing hysterically like a hyena so it did brighten up my mood and we did get to space in about 15 minutes!!!
Upon entering Space my mood had completely change, we found Jonathan Ulysses on the side terrace and with two mins of having my free vodka pineapple I was dancing like a mad man under the water spraying fans!! The music was so good, I have a few videos of it from my phone which I will upload and put the you tube links on for you all to see!! We must have watched most of his set before finding the roof terrace and red room for the first time ever! Really nice up there!
Used our passout around 5pm to go over to Bora Bora and get a few drinks. It was already going crazy over there when we arrived and we got talking to a group of Spaniards straight away and stayed with them for the afternoon which was great. (BTW I forgot to mention, there was only Me, Lydia and Fish at this point as the rest were rough and said they would come to space around 9pm which was frustrating at first but we didn’t mind once we got to Space)
There were lots of Policia Local around but people were still on the tables and the DJ was outside so it really was like nothing had changed from previous years so it was fantastic. Heard some amazing tunes, and when Samim Heater was dropped the place erupted which was brilliant.
We sat at Zanzibar opposite Space and waited for the others at 9pm then went back into Space.
Does anyone know if they cocked the set times up on the board by the entrance because im sure some of the people we thought we were listening too weren’t the right people!!!
Anyway it didn’t matter, everyone was here including three more people we met randomly we knew from back home so 19 people descended onto the side terrace!! We stayed here till Groove Armada came on then went to listen to them.
To be honest I couldn’t get into that much so ended up in the Discoteca with James Zabiela who was playing a great set!! Heard faxing berlin again so that made my night!
We all left at staggered times, we were first at 2.30am. (Had to reserve energy for my fave party Circo Loco)
Monday 13th August
Woke up feeling surprisingly good, but as usual the others were being a bit crap and decided to miss DC10 which is annoying as most of them had never been before and I told them for weeks before we came to make sure they are fit for this one!! So it ended up just Me, Lydia and Fish again. We got there around 4pm and it was already very very busy and the new enclosed terrace was a sweat box!! It really didn’t bother me though as we found a roomy area on the left hand wall between the Dj booth and the side exit doors which had been opened to let some air in. This place is my utter favourite and the music was sooo good. Everyone was going crazy all afternoon and there were some brilliant people in there (hats off to the man wearing a boiler suit in a room that was hotter inside than it was in the sun outside, also to the guy in an ogre mask and the person in the porcelain clown mask, and last but not least the mentalist in the scuba gear).
I enjoyed the new outdoor area, really good addition as it gave you a chance to get a breather. It was actually cooler in the 33 degree sun than it was in the terrace!! Ha ha.
We stayed inDC10 till the sun went down and Luciano commenced his set. Saw the first 15 mins off him then left because it was getting ridiculous in there at that point. Everyone wanted to see Luciano and all the tiny pockets off space disappeared.
We headed back to meet the others who had acquired free passes for Dusted so we went there. Eden is a **** hole though and the music was really bad, we blagged our way into the back room (Electric Sex) which was a lot better but by 3am Id had enough and we left.
Tuesday 14th August
I really really wanted to go to Carl Cox but people (inc myself) were getting short on cash and the Essex bunch were leaving at 7am on Wednesday so we all decided to go for a nice meal at Coastline (my fillet steak was amazing) and watch the sunset as we hadn’t managed to fit one in yet. We picked a good night as the sunset was perfect.
Bill came to 359 euro for 17 of us so we just split it down to 22 each which was good. We then bought a load of drinks and a rubber dingy (holiday tradition) and poured everything into the dinky (think there was 2 litres champagne, 1 litre vodka, 1 litre absinthe, 1 litre peach snaps, 2 litres red bull, 1 litre sprite and some other random crap). We then all got a straw and sucked like crazy till it was gone!! We were sat on San An Harbour doing this which was really nice and we all had a great laugh. We went to PLastik, Hush and Play 2 and had a brilliant time before saying our goodbyes to the Essex lot.
Wednesday 15th August
Really uneventful day, we literally sunbathed from 12 – 8pm and then had a meal and a couple of drinks at Savannah (saw the most fu**ed person ever on the wooden steps who nearly fell off. The she decided to strip and attempt to walk down to the sea and go for a swim but she couldn’t even stand let alone swim. She fell over on all the hard rocks before some people moved in for the rescue).
Got our very sad flight home and said goodbye to Ibiza for another year. Had the customary nightmares and twitches al the way home and last night and now I cant wait to go back!!!
In conclusion I had the best holiday off my life, the music was great, the people were great and this place just goes from strength to strength
