So after last years amazing parties- most notably Carl Cox opening at Space and Cocoon with Marco Carola, Tiesto at Amnesia and Morillos back to back sesion with Steve Lawler at Space, i wondered would 2005 be better?

We arrived on 4th September and headed straight to Space. I knew Sasha was off the line up but knew it would be a just as good without him. Jeff Mills is one of them DJs im always unsure about but he was ok on the suprisingly good new terrace (im more of a Discoteca man!) especially when he played Strings of Life! Jason Bye had already got us in the mood with New Order 'Blue Monday' and Hard FI's Axwell Remix which was my tune of the holiday. James Zabiela was good in the Discoteca but Justin Robertson was on top form to take us till the end at 6.30am. when he played Chemical Brothers' 'Believe' in the Discoteca it sounded amazing. A good start.

Well Cocoon has been my favourite night for afew years, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola and Toni Rios have rocked Amnesia in past years but i was particularily looking forward to this german electro tech night with Tiefschwarz and Sven Vath. It was amazing from the start with Sven on the dancefloor looking off it before 12.30am! Tiefschwarz built it up with New Order (again and what a mix!) and Talk Talk (80s tune!) before Sven took over at 3.30. If this guy can mix when hes off it i'd wonder how good he would be in a normal state of mind, Underworld 'Dark and Long' Anthony Rother 'Father' Aztec Mystic and Discowelt were the top tunes of the night. Excellent atmosphere and crowd in attendance, can Cocoon get any better?

Carl Cox at Space was next. Last years opening party was mind blowing with full on techno from the off which i love in the Discoteca. Coxys brief hour on the terrace was good but it was the club set i was waiting for. Christian Smith was good but Coxy came on and for some reason i couldnt get into it. Had i heard too much techno? or was last years party so good i was expecting too much from this years? Still we hacked it out till 7 but felt Coxys set was up and down too much for my liking as he was at SouthWest 4 a week earlier. Still a good night but not as good as last years techno fest!

Subliminal was our 4th night, we were starting to feel tired but we had done 5 nights in a row before so why not now! Pacha is always a good night as it has a special atmosphere and is different from the rest, i remember some great parties from Perfecto here in the past. The night started well with Seb Fontaine playing a blinder with Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams' his last tune. Morillo was dissapointing. Anthem after anthem came on, which didnt really do it for me as i like it darker but if you love Morillo then you would have loved it. We left at 6.30 in anticipation of our last night at Cream, Amnesia.

Cream has always been a great night in Ibiza for me-shame about the Liverpool night! I like Tiesto but last years set was amazing and i was hoping for more of the same tech-trance this year. But Montana and Tiesto banged out the hardest trance i have ever heard! I dont mind some trance but this was just for the caners style trance. Still i was off it so didnt mind it! Secret Cinema, LSG 'Netherworld', Technotronic and Dark Side of the Moon were the only tunes i recognised. A totally different night to Cocoon but still that element of magic that you just love in Ibiza!

We left Amnesia at 6 to get to the airport at 8, felt totally awful on the journey home but what could i expect after 5 nights of clubbing in a row in Ibiza! Overall a good 5 days but last years sets and nights were better. Bring on 2006 and Cocoon again!
Also looking forward to Fabric tonight with Richie Hawtin and my favs SLAM!!!

nice review.. i too agree that Cocoon is the best night on the island.. I was there on the 5th as well. Absolutely fantastic! Also agree with you about Carl cox and the SW4... not too keen on his experimenting with the live acts and drum n bass singers! thought he was pretty good on that Tuesday, September 6th though,, I was jumping around near the DJ booth until 7:30!!

Let us know how richie is at Fabric!

Great review.

Have to agree with you about Morillo we went to Subliminal mid August expecting great things from him but he was absolute crap! It was like he has ADHD or something....really irratic(sp?) set and i think he must've forgotten how to mix cos he just kept using this god awful siren thing between tracks! Absolute crap!
