48 hrs in Ibiza

Just had a great two day break in Ibiza. Second year in a row we've done this (got a 1 yr old and a 2 yr old at home - so needs must etc.) and again it was fantastic.

No clubbing, it just doesn't fit with two days, so we wanted to seek out good food, nice beaches and bar hopping.

Friday:

Arrived at our hotel, (the Simbad in Talamanca - third time there, really nice place and location) about 2.00pm.

It was HOT!!! Only been in May, June and September, took me by surprise.

Couple of arrival drinks on the terrace bar then a stroll to Sa Punta for a lovely meal to celebrate our arrival, sat next to two promoters anxously worrying in loud voices about what they will do career wise when "it all ends". Amusing.

Left Sa Punta a few hours later feeling relaxed after soaking up lots of wine and the views across Talamanca Bay and went for a walk along the Talamanca boardwalk.

Had a few beers in the bars and then headed to the hotel to quickly get changed and head over to San An for the sunset.

Had given the sunset strip a miss the last few times i'd been to Ibiza. But I'm glad i went this time, stunning sunset. Even though I'd seen it numerous times over the years, it was a good one.

Sitting with my better half, sharing a bottle of rose, laughing and chatting away watching the constant stream of characters walking past, we managed to unwind in a way we find really hard when at home.

Afterwards we had a reservation at Villa Mercedes, which was great as usual. Nice bit of live flamenco as well!!

Saturday:

Up early and got the 10.00am Baleria Ferry to Formentera. (90E for two return).

35 mins later we were on Formentera at La Savina, wondering which beach to go to.

Got a bit confused (all the previous day's wine) and just jumped into a taxi and asked him to take us to Migjorn beach. (thanks James8)).

Stunning beach, and outstanding setting. Found a great restaurant called Vodemal?

Long lazy lunch out of the mid day sun, then some swimming and beach time, got attacked by a strangely aggressive lizard (bit a chunk out of the missus' havianas!) then off to the port for the ferry back.

Formentera is beautiful, it should be part of anyone's trip to ibiza. 8)

Scrapped our evening restaurant reservation and walked up to Marina Botafoch and had a big jug of sangria at Madrigal (nice refit and great staff) watching all the yacht set pulling up in their boats.

Jumped on the water taxi to ibiza town and it started to get a bit messy, very quickly. we went round loads of the bars we used to frequent in our clubbing hey day(all the gay ones up the top:lol:), the missus decided to get a tattoo mid session, while i befriended lots of randoms. Vagabundos parade crew were great fun and in general Ibiza town still delivers as a great, friendly, random night out.
(Can't beat it for offers for guestlist and free tickets too!)

Sunday:

Felt surprisingly good, so headed to Jockey Club for lunch. Love it there. Had a few beers and fully intended to take it easy, given we were leaving for the airport at 6pm. But one jug of cava sangria later was snoozing happily on the beach.

Shower, plane home, Ibiza fun over for one year! 8)

8) - still does it for me over there !

8) - really admire your self-control ! 2-night trip to Ibiza as refreshing as a week most other places ?

How on earth do you manage to go to Ibiza for just 48 hours? That would kill me. I did 4 days last year and that was hard enough. I have to go for at least a week.

awesome review, for me personally it's so hard to get away, that any trip has to be 3 nights min or it's not worth the it however you seemed to have made full use of the time you both had.

Welll done :)

Haha, really not a case of self control! It's simply the longest time I can get away to Ibiza without the young ones at the moment. We usually take the family to Ibiza for a week then go solo for two days to cram in as much freedom as possible. Although admittedly it actually costs as much for 48hrs as it does for a week when you are cramming in as much as possible. Taxis etc make a big dint when time is precious! But definitely felt like I'd been away for a week! Either this or nuttin'!

Know the feeling on staying away but for me it's business-related. Did a 2-nighter in May and another last week (with clubbing, mind) - felt like a week. Got an unexpected 4-night belter in last month thru' a twist of fate and going for it 100% I was well ready to go home by then - felt like a month away.

Renting a car makes a big difference to dropping costs and expanding options, especially if solo or 2 of you, but about 3 times round the island still managed to rack up a 56Euro diesel bill in 3 days/2 nights - little old me in a Grande Picasso being the cheapest hire I could get at a day's notice in July !

The costs of fuel to airport+airport parking+flights+car+insurance+hotel for short stay do mean it's never a cheap option. So just got to make the most of it - and it's still completely worth it !! :p:p:p

Agreed!

Great review, trying to get some tips ready for when we do 2 nights in October, although we are wanting to do the Space closing. Do you think 2 nights is enough? Im really thinking that 3 might be better especially with Space involved!

Where was the tattoo place?

Wish I could drop everything and go off on a short jolly. Getting leave from work is a nightmare.

Totally agree.

This time, I'm going to try exploring the more remote Ibiza beaches too...

My new found fear of Jellyfish, acquired in Italy, however has me a bit more cautious.

But certainly going back to Formentera again.

Just take a dive mask when you go swimming - they are pretty easy to spot if the water's even remotely clear and if you just kick the water near them they p!ss off. Most of the jellyfish in Ibiza are pretty harmless. My shoulder got brushed by one last week off Atlantis swimming back round to get my snorkelling stuff having been for a climb around the rocks (i.e. the one time I had no mask on !).

It was a noticeable sting which lasted about a minute (nothing too bad at all) and then it gradually subsided. Can't say it was a particularly horrendous experience to be fair - and I was perfectly able to carry on what I was doing until it went away completely about 1/2 an hour later.

I swam into a mass of them off Lido beach and struggled to keep my breathing steady the whole way back to shore (~200 meters). The water was not clear enough really to spot them a ways off so I kept banging into them... Real horror show stuff.

I'm going to try to get my hands on some cream that say prevents the stings but I'm still going to be a bit panic stricken every time I go out now.
