PACHA’S Thursdays seem destined to go to RENAISSANCE on at least FOUR nights (SASHA as resident), with DEEP DISH, under their YOSHITOSHI label branding, taking a further four nights. This mirrors other DJ-and-their-label-led nights at Pacha, like RELEASE YOURSELF/SANCHEZ, DEFMIX/MORALES, SUBLIMINAL/MORILLO and UNDERWATER/EMERSON. There are strong, but unconfirmed, rumours that DANNY TENAGLIA will appear on three other Thursdays.

PACHA–ESQUE - Not the Ibiza venue, but Pacha still, comes a message from Switzerland informing that; “FYI: Pacha Switzerland lasted exactly four months, from opening until curtailing its programme, with debt amounting to over CHF1mil (a million Swiss Francs).” If true that’s rather sad for those involved, financially, and signals that it's not yet quite ALL plain sailing towards total World club domination for the powerful Pacha organisation.

DARREN EMERSON’S UNDERWATER night at PACHA is on Tuesdays. OPENING on June 22nd, Darren is joined by joint resident TIM DeLUXE, with LAYA & BUSHWACKA! as star guests. Other season regulars include WALLY LOPEZ and MUTINY, with summer guest appearances from GROOVE ARMADA, LOTTIE, PAUL JACKSON and DJ SNEAK (who will host two SNEAK BEAT parties). Additionally two CIRCUS vs CHIBUKU parties take place in August.

THE GLOBAL ROOM and TERRACE areas at Pacha, for Underwater, are hosted each week by BBC Radio One DJ TREVOR NELSON, under his RHYTHM NATION banner. Trevor will play proper R&B and Hip Hop in an eclectic set of Old and New Skool classics. He will additionally play a couple of Main Room nights in August, plus host Rhythm Nation pre-parties at SAVANNAH BEACH CLUB in San An. Underwater will again hold their pre-parties at nearby CAFÉ MAMBO (as will ALL of Pacha’s party nights).

ERICK MORILLO’S SUBLIMINAL SESSIONS (the night which Underwater initially grew out of) returns to Pacha each Wednesday. ERICK has apparently committed to the island in a quite conclusive fashion, by acquiring what has been referred to as a ‘Million Euro Villa’ at Can Furnet. SATOSHI TOMEII (of DEFMIX at Pacha on Saturdays) is another US DJ who has supposedly put down permanent property roots on the island. Do these DJ moves prove an enduring confidence in Ibiza clubbing? Or simply show that property investment is sensible on a booming island? Let’s hope it’s both!

FUSE (a collaboration between London promoters CLOCKWORK, NAUGHTY and SHAKAVARA) run a regular promotion at Pacha London, so this summer are extending their reach to Ibiza. They’ll be hosting a hot week on the island between July 21st and July 28th, with an itinerary that already includes TONIC vs FUSED @ SPACE on Friday 23rd, an afternoon BOAT PARTY, an evening FOAM PARTY @ ES PARADIS (Foam? at Es Para? Surely water?), plus an afternoon POOL PARTY at KANYA on Sunday 25th. Since that only covers the first 54 hours of their event there’s probably a lot more to come on this one. They’re bringing DJs like LOS HERMANO (aka Andy Manston), ANT PACKHAM and JAMES PARKER to join Kanya resident Rob Burne.

LUCIFER was a club that suffered a largely unproductive time during its stuttering first season in 2001. The old Havana Corso venue (beneath the massive Hotel Corso, overlooking Ibiza Town’s new port) initially launched as a ‘swingers’ club, intending to cater for potential carefree liaisons of a sexual nature between strangers (outdoors it might be called ‘dogging’. As it happens that idea quickly faded away, through apathy (why do it in a club, when you can do it on the beach!). Instead Lucifer began to slowly build a neat, if variable, reputation for cool underground clubbing (it’s a lovely space, dug into the cliff side, in cave-like fashion). Now finally, over the winter season, the place has soared in popularity to unprecedented levels, with the funked up ‘island crowd’ especially gathering for after-parties on Saturdays and Sunday mornings. This resurgence of interest bodes well for the coming summer, with so many other medium-sized venues under constant pressure from the authorities there has to be a place where the resident clubbers can totally escape the tourist pressure.

IT’S ALL CHANGE, yet no change, at DEFECTED this summer. The CHANGE is that they are switching from Sunday to Friday nights at EL DIVINO. The NO CHANGE is that the resident DJ roster again sports the names JUNIOR JACK & KID CRÈME, plus SANDY RIVERA.

OF COURSE that will lead to ANOTHER CHANGE in that BOBBY & STEVE’S EMPIRE has lost its slot. Whether or not they return at El Divino on another night, or at another venue, or simply fade away from Ibiza as a resident act, remains to be seen.

LEGENDARY IBIZA DJ PIPPI has spent his winter on far too many aeroplanes, a long World Tour taking him to so many exotic locations - Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Brazil, New York… As always The Original has been making lots of fresh sounds during the off-season too, the results of which he began to unveil at the recent Miami WMC. From his worldwide hits like ‘I Luv U Baby’, to the Undiscovered Ibiza CD compilation series, Pippi has always been at the forefront of the island vibe, projecting a positive Ibiza image. Most of the island will therefore be immensely pleased to hear that, for summer 2004, he will once more have a Saturday residency at Amnesia with PEOPLE FROM IBIZA, which again takes place on the GARDEN TERRACE (as the amazing Terrace space is these days called). Then again, stories of Manumission’s potential landing at the venue on Saturdays could yet affect these plans… Durrr

DJ OLIVER, Amnesia’s resident DJ, co-host of PEOPLE FROM IBIZA, has been busily recording this winter. His grooving House-vibed, female-vocal collaboration with ROGER SANCHEZ (together known as TRANSLATINS) is out on STEALTH Records about now, and is entitled ‘MYSTERIOSA’. Stealth previously released Oliver’s ‘FREE MY SOUL’, while his ‘CHANGE THE WORLD’ appeared on HOUSE TEMPO. All are recorded at Oliver’s island studio. He is, of course, also the main DJ at Amnesia’s most popular and successful night, LA TROYA on Wednesdays.

WEDNESDAYS? They could be renamed WEDNESDAY WARS this summer, if all rumours are proven correct. It seems that DC10 (primarily known for CIRCO LOCO on Monday mornings) are now planning an assault on other days and nights of the week, starting with a TIMO MAAS residency each Wednesday. If this happens it could compete directly with nearby SPACE, if as expected they confirm six or seven GODS’ KITCHEN parties on that same night (ARMIN VAN BUUREN as resident, playing it Trance-style). With the spectacular LA TROYA at Amnesia pulling a huge slice of the very ‘island crowd’ who tend to frequent DC10, plus Erick Morillo’s always popular SUBLIMINAL SESSIONS at PACHA, well, it’s already tough enough. And don’t forget that yet another major new venture is rumoured at Privilege that night, with MAURO PICOTTO & CHRIS LIEBLING’S MEGA NIGHT destined to land. With all this action (plus Es Para, El Div, etc) there can’t be much left over for LASHED, at Eden, (now, perhaps if their advertising bills were paid…).

BACK-SCRATCH FEVER: The site of the proposed, but refused, SPACE-related mini-venue in San Antonio (next door to Villa Mercedes, right behind the bus stops) has already been turned into temporary government offices. This was a necessary move due to the Town Hall currently being reconstructed, and apparently involves a three or four year lease agreement. Will there THEN finally be permission given for a club-bar to open on the site?

Interesting looking back how BIG things have become in Ibiza.

Anyone know what Lucifer is these days?

Are the temporary Government offices next to Villa Mercedes still temporary government offices?

- lucifer changed of names a few times after that article: babylon, prestige, living club and finally ibiza station in 2011... it's been closed since then

- that building is the permanent location of the town hall
