Hello people

forget the old timers tag

first time we go to Ibiza (july 2007)... heard its a beautiful place, with something for every one..

we are staying in es cana (recommened by a family friend) which from some research is on the opposite side to San Antonio were all the big club events happen.

thanks in advance to people who reply to my posts, as i will be posting a few "fact finding" questions, i hope i am not being nerdy or twee 8O I just want to make sure i along with my family have a great Ibiza experience

First question:

i really want to go to Cafe del mar for the sunset, will it be rammed and suggestions of were is the best place view/take it in etc etc

best regards

Hi Mike

You ask about cafe del mar being 'rammed' well that really depends on when abouts in July you are going, the furthe into the month especially when the schools are off the busy it will be but it wont exactly be 'rammed'.

There are a few other bars next to cafe del mar where you can also catch the sun set, these are savahanna, mambo, sugar sea and are on the same strip commonly known as the sunset strip (if you dont already know this).

General advice would be to get to one of these places atleast an hour before sunset (in peak season) to ensure you get a good view with a seat, failing that a lot of people turn up and sit on the beach to watch the sunsets too.

If you search on this forum about the sunset strip and in particular the article on 'San Antonio, the regeneration' and 'san antonio rediscovered' you will see that there are a number of changes to this strip in particular the building of a new promenade which may or may not be completed by the time you go.

I assume your hiring a car? as getting from Es Cana to San Antonio is not very straight forward by public transport and a little expensive by taxi:)

Your right in your opening statement that there is something for everyone, ive been going there for the last ten years (3 times a year), Im 43 also but dont consider myself an old fogie by any means. The clubbing scene is not the only thing the island is about and there are many great places to visit although i have to admit that the music and chill out scene is my main attraction to ibiza

by the way welcome to the forum, this place is a great source of information and 'most' people are friendly and will to give good advice

Thanks for the reply and welcome, thanks for the advice. I have lots of questions to ask, and i am really grateful for the links also. We travel to Ibiza on the 14th of july for a fortnight and we will be hiring two cars, flights from jet2 (Leeds/Bradford) at £39.99 each which i think were a bargain

all the best

You'll love Es Cana, I went their last your with my lot, real family resort but with enough night life to let your hair down and enjoy yourself if you like that kind of thing. And the island is quite simply stunning. I've never seen anywhere as beautiful.

Which hotel are you staying in?

hello Ste

thanks for the reply , we are staying at the La Perla Apartments

2 families of 4, really looking forward to it, never done Ibiza before and from what i have heard, read and listened to peoples views on it there seems to be something for everyone

Really glad i joined this forum, excellent

second question for people in the know:

car hire at the airport as we are travelling in late 12 midnight does any one know of a good rental company that is open late (hertz close at 11 pm)

is it advisable to get a taxi and how much is it to resort (Es Cana) and/or get a deal with local car hire firm ? I have checked the link on this site however i dont think they have updated as i cannot hire a car past October 2006.

thanks in advance to whoever replys

I've been to the island about 30 times and mostly to Es Cana - apart from all the good information on this site, try my links below and then email me direct if you have specific queries and I will do what I can to help.

Forgot to add - taxis are in short supply at night in high season so expect a long queue - will be 35/40 euros to Es Cana.
Car hire -- my favourite is Centauro who have a desk at airport and only charged me an extra 16 euros to pick up at 3.00am!. I have also used Airtours and Onairportcarhire who are ok but I would steer clear of Hyperent and Holiday autos who use agents and you have to be bussed from the airport to a garage to sign up meaning more delays when all you really want is to get to your appartment.

another option for car rental is carjet, its cheap, can book online and you dont have to pay any deposit you just pay when you pick it up at the airport. the charges include all insurance and no excess for petrol, mileage etc. plus they are open 24 hours:)

Now this is on my to-do list as well but I've heard that sunset's at Benirras is supposed to be a brilliant experience too (basically on the north coast same as San An - look directly north on the map from Es Cana)

Probably get some tips on it from people on here too! I haven't managed to get there yet:cry: though but will hopefully this summer!:D

Carjet is another "off airport" - delays of up to 4 hours have been known!

Es cana is a fantastic resort, and only a short bus journey from Santa Eularlia. Taxi Should be around €34 - €38 euros.

Car Hire

I agree with what's been said about car hire & Centauro are a good firm with an office in the airport terminal - but if you book through Holiday Autos - they actually use Centauro as one of their agents you can get the hire much cheaper than going directly to Centauro BUT you must specify this at the time of booking - because as has been already stated Holiday Autos generally have off site cars. Good Luck & enjoy your stay

I use Moto Luis everytime, 2-3 times a year for the past 3 years, never had a problem with them, nice cars, really friendly and helpful people too.

Have to agree. We've used Moto Luis for the past four years and while they don't have an office at the airport, one of their reps will meet your flight, walk you to the car park and dump you in one of their many cars.

And they're very well priced.

Alright Poundy.

I went Ibiza last year with another couple and the kids (aged 5 & 2). We are returning again this year in August. We split the holiday into 2 seperate weeks, the first week we stayed in San Antonio Bay at the hotel Bergantin. This gave us the opportunity to do the whole sunset strip thing. I love it down there, such a great vibrancy, although I do find it cheesy when everyone is clapping etc as the sun sets. Our friends weren't as relaxed there as their daughter was only 2 and it is quite rocky down there.

We managed one night out clubbing when the girls took the kids home. They left about 1am, while we headed off to Eden. We had a great night, although we wished we had ventured off to one of the bigger clubs. Although we had a fantastic night, Eden is just like any club at home really and couldn't be considered an 'Ibiza super club'.

After the whole San An experience, we jumped in a cab and headed over to Es Cana where we stayed at the Miami hotel. We thought the hotel was great. The pool wasn't as good as the Bergantin and it was almost impossible to get loungers, but the entertainment was better and the food was better. We went All incl for each of the 2 weeks. We typically made the most of the All incl til 11/12, then went to one of he local bars on the beach til about 2 or 3 drinking copiuys amounts of Sangria.

If you like a bet, we found a bookies in Es Cana (sad I know), but we tend to like a few pints and little flutter when on holiday. After all, you've usually had enough of the sun by 4ish.

We also made a reservation at a restaurant called Bambuddha Grove for our last night. Not your typical family restaurant, but we were made to feel more than welcome and having two little un's certainly wasn't a problem. Bambuddha has its own website that you can visit to see some picture.

We had planned to head into Ibiza town one night, visit Formetara and go to Santa Eulalia for the Day and night, but in the end didn't get round to it.

As I say had a great time. We have just booked back into the Hotel Miami for the second week again and a I am just in process of reviewing various hotels for the 1st week in San An Bay. (nothing really wrong with the hotel Bergantin - just fancied a bit of a change)
