Sat 14th - Made my first visit to cafe Mambo to see the sunset.. impressed by Mambo, Mojito at 12 euros each was a lot cheaper than I'd expected. Talk Talk - Life's what you make it and Happy Mondays - Loose fit played as the sun set, perfect.
Sun 15th - Unfortunately I discovered for the first time why We Love is getting slated. I'm unsure of who the DJ was at (around) 6.30 when we arrived, the music he played was getting the (not so large as previous years) crowd going, the atmosphere that I know and love from the sunset terrace was about to kick in,....... then here comes Alfredo to spoil the day. I have backed Alfredo in the past but now I feel he should be ether retiring to the country or playing the first set OR at least realising he should be less self indulgent and keep to the tempo of the previous DJ. He took the bouncy house played by said previous DJ down to what I can only describe as groovy chill-out..most people stopped dancing and started chatting - not good. Gradually the mood picked up however all had been ruined a bit in my view. Funkagenda came on last and while his style of music is not my thing he at least got the crowd bouncing. My next dissapointment was to find that Paul Woolford was not on til 2.30 We had already bought tickets for Cadenza so had to leave but had a good dance in the Terraza first, who was laying I'm not sure but have a feeling PBR Streetgang came on just before we left which we were loving the sound of but thought it best o get to Pacha - really looking forward to this.... Another big mistake!! Cadenza is an Italian sausage fest. Reboot was awesome as usual I barely managed to throw some wild shapes on the steps without assaulting anyone.. then, I could only presume at the way people are surging towards the DJ booth that Michael Jackson is doing a duet with Pavarotti in a shock comeback.. ah no it's just DJ Luciano (mmm yes please ) Dancing became impossible and after a short while we decided being there was pointless as there was no space anywhere at all (other than the odd toilet cubicle). Verdict - We Love I still love but some changes are required, really wish I'd stayed for Wooly. Cadenza I would never bother again as if I can not dance even in the darkest nooks and crannys there is no point.
Mon 16th - The day had arrived that I was most looking forward to DC10 and Cocoon DC10 has changed, it has lost it's sinister edge but in my opinion has only got better. I do love plinky plonk but its absence was not a bad thing, the music was just pure pounding house not one shoite moment we danced our socks off AND spent all day in the light room which was cooler AND you could breath, dance, throw shapes, the people were friendly and zero attitude thankyou Cassy, Tania and Matthias we left in the early hours for Cocoon which was heaving but I found a great spot underneath the DJ booth in the main room, I was gutted we missed Sven and Pantha Du Prince but there was lvery little room and I needed to dance hard. Richie Hawtin and Dubfire were awesome and surprising as the techno played was bouncier than what I'd expected from DF we continued dancing til 5.30 am then home to bed.
Tues 17th - Spent the day on the beach outside Ushuiaia where it appeared something was going on.. Didnt take much notice when passing through the side to go and get changed for a night at Bora Bora (I still haven't been). While passing back through in the evening we noticed that Dubfire was playing therefore Bora Bora was out of the question. An awesome night and DF closed his set with one of my favourite songs (Inner City - Big Fun)to which I got a bit emotional and started crying (oops thats to much partying for u I guess ). We ten left for Bora Bora but I'm afraid to say I threw up n the beach outside and had to be practically carried home
Weds 18th - Channel Zoo was going off already when we arrived at 8ish a change from last year. The Seal Pit was a bit flat so we went down to the flat bit (don't know what it's called down there). This turned out to be a very good move and the amazing closing set by Anthea had everyone going mental, glad I managed to find out the name of that DJ! On to kekahuma to see Tiefschwarz and can't remember the names of the others but again had an awesome night really good pounding music to end the night.
Thrsday 19th - We'd put our names on the list for Luciano and were told be there by 6pm dresscode vagabundos.. hmmm one of our friends was sent home to change whie I saw a man with a carlsberg t-shirt and a football t-shirt wandering around. 36 euros for 2 mojitos when we'd arrived at 6pm was not good and we were not allowed out to get more funds. We decided to leave and go to Ushuiaia to see Sasha and Cassy. We ended up chilling on the sand outside Ushuiaia for a couple of hours but could still hear the music from Luciano. We made a move and sat outside La Plage. After a while I decided to sneak back in for a bit which was pretty cool as guess what Luciano closed his set with - Inner City I didn't cry however but had a little dance, made a short video, high-fived Luciano (just cos all the crazy obsessed Italians wanted to) then got him to pose for a pic (my cameras so slow he turned round so I got his back ). I was sick outside La Plage a few times before we left for Come Together @ Space. I danced to Danny Tenaglia's set with my eyes closed, by now I was seriously flagging. I ended up sleeping for 5 in that tube upstairs in that room (what name??) until some seriously funky sounds were being played which woke me up a bit - with a pounding headache. We left at about 4.30 really needing bed by now. Bt gutted as I intended on going to see Nima Gorji at Underground that night somewhere.
Friday 20th - Flying home at 3am Sat so couldnt do much.. Club Don Toni let s keep our all inc band plus no charge for being a little late from room (fab hotel). We went down to Fireland @ Ushuiaia to chill and listen to Tania Vulcano etc while waitng for our fight. Funnily enough I got my second wind and ended up dancing on a table completely sober (I didn't want to go home) That was a frst!
All in all probably the best yet for me (as they are year after year!!). Not sure I'll outdo that party schedule next year though... but will try
P.s met some great people from spotlight too!
Forgot to mention that my friend did something a little embarrassing in La Plage... thought he recognised someone in the vip area and before I could stop him went up to them saying I know u, u were in Ibiza 2 years ago your parents are from Cardiff to which a confused James Blunt replied you have me mixed up with someone else, oh god that was hysterical!!
