14 nights in San Antonio... my experiences

Well, were do I start…. I found a cheap deal for 14 nights in San Antonio, the accommodation was allocation on arrival so we had our fingers crossed… Two and a half hours later we touched down in Ibiza airport minus our cameras and other electrical items which were packed in our suitcase. There must be some sort of electrical ‘black hole’ between Leeds Bradford airport and Ibiza. Anyway, we boarded a coach which took us on the journey to San Antonio and we ended up in the Las Perlas apartments which were supposed to be 3 star. Our rooms made Armley jail look comfy and after reporting the shower broken at least 3 times I decided to give up and just get cained outta my head. Well If you can’t beat ‘em… join ‘em is what I thought. Anyway the magnetic draw of the jail like apartments must have made the thiefs feel very much at home as one night some scumbag decided to come and visit our room helping themselves to whatever they could find. My advice would be close and lock your patio doors at night. We flew with Thompson and on reporting our problems to the rep he kind of shrugged his shoulders in a sort of ‘well what the hell do you expect’ kinda way. My advice to anyone travelling to Ibiza this summer is… be very careful with your belongings! There is a very criminal element busy at work in San Antonio and after speaking with the hotel staff and other people they seem to be reporting crime is on the increase each year. I have been to Ibiza a few times now and can honestly say I will think hard about returning due to the bad experiences we had.

i find it a little difficult to be sympathetic with someone who goes out leaving the patio doors open. i think you'll find that your insurance won't cover the loss of your belongings because you didn't take adequate security measures.

the spanish have an expression about tourists coming here and leaving their common sense on the airport tarmac. there is no more crime here than anywhere, just use your common sense and you'll be ok.

Sorry to hear about your stuff but locking your patio doors and securing your belongings while you're out at night is pretty much a given when on holiday, no matter where you are.

I've been going away with the lads since 1995 and that was one of the 1st things I ever learned.

Sorry guys I didn't make it clear in my wording.

We were robbed when we were asleep in our rooms and we left the patio door open for air. The rooms had no aircon and were like ovens by the mornings so we had to leave them open. Being on the first floor we thought we should have been alright, especially as we were in the rooms asleep but obviously not.

i agree about securing ur room, its common sense really. but what i will say is we got bak on sunday from a wicked 2 weeks out there and thankfully didnt have any problems ourselves but we did hear a lot of reports of bag snatches. Now i have been goin to ibiza the last 7 yrs 2 or 3 times a yr and although i know this kinda thing happens everywhere i must stay i have never heard as many reports as i have the last 2 weeks.
one lad was down on the beach with a girl (classy) and sum morocan guy came running over and stole her bag while they were ermmmm "busy", my mate ran after him (pulling his trousers up as he ran) he did manage to get the bag bak but how cheeky is that!
stephen i agree though sum brits do seem to leave their common sense at home and then moan all the time when things go wrong!

another thing i noticed was there is an awful lot of Polish workers on the island this yr, are they out there doin all the building work or something?!?!

ohwell....

aww god all this seems.. stupid but leaving doors open !!! sorta invites them in dont it!!!
its like if u was walking down street and u saw a door in u wud kinda glance in wudent you... ohwell... we all learn??
im off out there in 20 days and i cant wait im just ****ting it for the scrubbs who wanna robb us we have the best travel insurance !! and wil be getting safes and knowing me il be on guard !!!... watching out for them !!

My apologies then mate - thats a different kettle of fish.

Leaving your door open while you go out (which we thought you had done) is one thing - leaving your door open while your'e in the room (1 story up as well!) in order to get cool air is another.

How many of us do that?! Most of us, I bet.

Thats absolutely disgraceful! If you're actually in the room you take it for granted that you can at least have the patio door open and be safe.

It's a shame they didnt accidentally wake you up so you could beat the s*** out of them.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. With regards to the hotel not being up to much, you will be pushed to find any nice hotels in Ibiza that are on the cheap side. Unless you have £400/500+ to spend on a hotel thats just semi decent then im afraid your stuck.

Your the bloody perv!! 8O

We did actually have an incident last year when we were staying @ Catalina. I had left the doors open and when Joey went up to get something from the room there was a guy in there having a mooch

When we were leaving i heard some guests complaining about having some money pinched from their room, they were on the same level as us so i can only assume that it was the same person, it was very easy for this guy to climb up onto a bin and lift himself up.

Dont leave your patio doors open kids  ;)

well i wnt have anything of any value to nick anyway LOL

Yeah I can see what u mean about the increase of theft this year!

We got back from the club to our villa out in the middle of nowhere - to find each one of the rooms had money gone from it!

The worst part is, the villa was occupied at the time  my mate had come back from Eden early and was passed out on the sofa, right next to the open door 8O gutted!!

Lesson learned - lock up tight everytime u go out!!

Unfortunate experiances there for you. But dont let it tar your thoughts of going back after so many years of fine holidaying. That kind of thing happens in the UK on a regular basis with people in bed who have secured their house with locks on doors and windows. So it happening with the patio door open isnt surprising.

On a side note, We visited san an in May and stayed at the Las Perlas on a good cheap deal for a mates 21st. I have to say that for the cheapness of the deal we thought the Las Perlas was ok and perfectly acceptable for the amount we paid. The only problem we found was the sofa beds. They were short and the wooden frame dug into legs/ankles which hindered sleep and as such we didnt get much! (There were 3 staying in our room and one was female who instantly stole the actual beds, despite being the shortest and able to sleep on the sofas.

We were on the second floor and i must say we left our patio doors open all the time. House keeping kept shutting them for us, but we opened them instantly when we arrived back. Everything of any value was in our safe (including tickets and passports) so they couldnt have taken anything worthwhile even if they had come into our rooms to steal things.

I try and keep my money safe by taking it out with me, however every time I got to Pacha / Space / DC10 etc. large chunks of cash go missing during the course of the night / day...

Seriously though - I've always left doors open when sleeping (but only when it would take the likes of spiderman to get to the balcony - p.s. doesn't include Bora Bora spiderman either  )

Common sense goes a long way....

DJNC about jet apts near bora bora, they over the years they have put steel bared wire round the ground floor rooms now, looks more like a prison camp.but a damm site better than it was years ago,as for having things nicked, stay in a better place next year.

I've never stayed at Jet and fortunately I haven't had anything stolen from my room, so not sure if your post is aimed at me? Though I do find what you say about Jet apts interesting.

My poor attempt at humour for when my money goes missing, revolves around me taking my money out at night / handing it over to the staff at the club / bar - Then as the night goes on, I have no recollection of spending quite so much... hence large chunks of money goes mysteriously missing8O
