My memory isn't all that good at the best of times, so after 10 days on the White Isle and a week back at home we'll see what I can remember. This years trip was based around the Stag Do for my older brother. It's been a good 10 years since he had last visited and as I go every year it made sense that Ibiza should be the location for the leg abroad. Stag Do with the lads was booked for 5 days which isn't enough for me so I decided to head out 5 days earlier on my own.
I went with an idea of the nights I wanted to do and places I wanted to visit but nothing was set in stone as I find the unplanned events usually end up being the best.*
Tuesday 31st July
Decided to fly from Leeds/Bradford as I found some cheap flights and it gave me a chance to catch up with some old uni pals before I headed to the airport. I forgot how much of a snail trail it can be getting through security there. Sat down and enjoyed a few Peronis before getting on the Ryan Air flight (no complaints) and hitting Ibiza.*
Landed just after 8 and my bag was one of the first off so headed straight out to the bus stop for the number 9 after 15 mins I was on my way.*
Stayed at the Azuline Galfi in San An as I have done for the last 3 years. It's quite cheap, has single rooms that are spacious with air con included and it's near the petrol station just past Ibiza Rocks bar etc so close enough to the action but far enough for some peace.*
Dropped the bags off and headed down to Itaca to meet up with some friends who are working out there this summer. I love the roof terrace up there and many a night started in that way. I had planned to check out Colors at Es Paradis later on but one friend was heading to Sankeys for Diynamic so thought I'd give that a try, free entry too so it would be rude not to.*
Being a predominately Trance music fan I wasnt quite sure what to expect but when we arrived Sankeys was already busy just as H.O.S.H was taking to the decks. *The place gave off a really great atmosphere and everyone seemed to be enjoying it, myself included. Although I say Trance is my favoured genre I listen to a vast range of sounds and found myself really enjoying the music, a good job really as my friend was there to see Solomun who was on last. Spent the rest of the night doing what I do best...drinking, dancing and chatting to random people until gone 5:30 when tiredness after a long day was kicking in.*
Luckily some people I'd been chatting to were heading San An way so I jumped in a taxi with them leaving Jonny to carry on his night.
Wednesday 1st August
I've never been a big sleeper and woke up about 10:30, so headed down to grab some breakfast and then got the trainers on and set off an on a very slow jog towards the Bay. I wanted to check out the hotel I'd be staying at once the rest of the group arrived later in the week as I'd read plenty of bad reviews about it. I wanted to take charge of booking that but my brother was adamant it had to be AI which I didn't fancy at all so left it up to him to sort. Had a quick wander round the place and it seemed decent enough.....only time would tell if my opinion remained the same when staying there. *
Went back to get showered and changed then spent the rest of the day on the little beach by the Sa Flama restaurant. Paid €4 for the use of a sun lounger and the very friendly waiter was more than happy to keep bringing me refills of my drinks so I didn't have to move. A bit lazy on my part perhaps but he seemed more than happy to do it and I tipped him well for being as nice as he was. Ventured back to the hotel about 7 to grab a few hours sleep before the night ahead.*
Wednesday is the one night on the island that for me is filled with a good variety but none of them stand out. Sankeys was my plan but after going the night before I decided on a change so headed over to PDB. I was due to meet up with friends again but they were working until midnight, so I grabbed myself a selection of drinks from the shop and decided to dump myself down on the grass outside Ushuaia. I had been tempted to buy a ticket as it was all 3 Swedes but seen them many times over the years and thought €70 was steep.*
Got chatting to a random group of guys & girls who were doing the same as me, spent almost 2 hours outside Ushuaia enjoying the music and having a few drinks.*
I made the suggestion we go and check out Plastik Beach Bar and everyone agreed to that and we ventured down for some more drinks. I really liked Plastik, it's a nice little addition. Great selection of drinks as is the case with most beach bars and they weren't too expensive either. We'd just missed out on a BBQ party they had be holding and after chatting to a few people already there they said it had been a decent event with some excellent food & music.*
My mate then appeared after finishing work and it was time to go to DC10. He had sorted entry out once again so another cheaper night already. It was the VisionQuest guys taking over. I've done Circoloco in the past and not been a massive fan but this was totally different. Almost everyone was there for the music and it made for a great night with an awesome atmosphere, yeah sure there were plenty of vests but hey they were loving the music as much as everyone else. I recognised one or two tracks but again as this isn't the music I usually listen to that's as far as it goes. It was pretty chilled out in comparison to events I usually go to but very enjoyable. I can see why these Wednesday takeover events at DC are very popular. Headed back towards San An around 5am, grabbed some more friends who'd been out in the West End, plenty of rekorderlig then headed to the beach to carry on the drinking for a while longer.*
First two nights had been pretty chilled out by my standards as I usually tend to drink far too much & forget 100% of everything that has happened. Both really enjoyable though, especially considering they were nights I wouldn't usually attend.*
